Lost UK driving licence

Hi all. I hope you are well.

I will explain my situation. I have moved to France 8 months ago and I contact the ANTS to exchange my British licence for a French one. The problem is that I have lost it and I’m not sure if I can ask for a replacement of my UK licence not being longer British resident.

Did some one run through the same problem and can advice me?

No, you can’t get a new UK licence now. You have to keep going with the French licence application.

Don’t know what will happen when they ask you to send your UK licence in. Maybe @kim can advise?

Unfortunately if you have no physical licence to submit when asked then you will not be finalised. Don’t wait for it to be cancelled.

You have to apply again to exchange a lost licence, same procedure except you choose lost and it will cost you 25€. You will put a letter in the additional supporting documents in French with your name, dob, licence number and where issued, asking for application no. xxx (previous one) to be cancelled and this to be processed as your only application as you have lost your driving licence and are now applying to exchange by lost definition.

You will upload an attestation honneur stating much the same and it must include the details above and roughly when you lost it.

If you have a copy of your licence then upload that and the DVLA check code. If you don’t have a copy of your licence you will need the D737 certificate which can be emailed to you by the DVLA but you have to ring them.

Don’t forget your birth cert and your visa stamp in your passport.

If I don’t need a VISA I just send a copy of my passport? I have Italian passport and British one.

Hi Martin

If you hold an EU passport then this is your primary citizenship as this is ho you entered France with no visa/no CdS.

You will need:

Utility bill
Attestation of loss (document link above)
Passports both so you are the same nationality as your licence
Birth cert
Letter cancelling previous application (explained above) to be uploaded in 7 additional supporting documents under Autre title.
Arrival date in France
Evidence of being here for 185 days, either impot statement, Ameli attestation de droits or Mairie declaration of habitation.
DVLA check code ONLY if you have a copy of your licence, otherwise it must be the D737 certificate. as above 7 additional documents.

If you have any C or D categories on your licence where you took a specific test then you’ll need a medical if you want to keep them, otherwise don’t worry gifted grandfather rights not being transferred.
