Mad idea but could Leclerc and similar operate an on line shopping service

Set the flames out at me of even thinking about it but it could be a step

forward for more jobs and giving the sick and immobile people a chance

to get their shopping.....

A DELIVERY charge and possibly one ready meal per day cooked freshly at the

store. Too much to ask? Too much to arrange?

Found this place a few months ago whilst looking for somewhere decent but non

of my friends wanted to go....too far for them.

We will be going sometime soon it looks like it is just up my street.

Thanks for reminding me about it....

Have you tried la Table du Marché in Bergerac, Barbara? It's just by the place du marché couvert, on the corner, orange & red façade. Oh & have you tried either of Vincent Lucas' restaurants? (One in Ste Sabine Born & one in Bergerac).

This is interesting, re meals brought to agèd people: http://alimentation.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/GuidePortage_Web_cle417c97.pdf

Ah. Here people call it "la cafèt. du Leclerc" so I hadn't realised it had a proper name. Inter's version is La Table du Marché which is funny because there's a very good restaurant in Bergerac called the same thing. The Inter one make a mean cup of coffee (so you can recover from shopping with the paper) but I haven't tried the food - I recommend the TdM in town though ;-)

Mornin

Cresendo...OR however it is spelt is a cafeteria attached to Leclerc which serves

all manner of fast foods..at the level of good hospital food which has not been

stewing for hours. IT, is of course cooking without much effort, little skill and

very reasonable in price.

But you do get what you pay for in life.

Having lived here for more than 6 years I have found...WITHIN one hours drive

no more than 4/5 restaurants which serve food which I feel is good.

Most people are far less fussy than j and most people I have met here are

easily satisfied by re heated conflt of duck with frozzy chips brought to

life in age old oil with a garnish of oak leaf or feuille de chen [probably mis spelt].

Nothing will change my mind to the fact that most people do not need educated

palats....and thank goodness.

I always have a fresh stock in my fridge which can become minestone or

deglaze the streak pan which has been enriched with garlic and shallots, mushrooms and

it then become a primitive sauce.

I have been as dedicated to cooking and providing edible pleasures as some of you

have been to enriching your general knowledge.

I am not sure that I am ready to give up this interest.

But I am aware that for many people who need a big shop delivered a meal

to re heat in their microwaves could be welcomed.

And as the car got sick yesterday on the way back from Libourne....

a delivery of shopping from LECLERC could work wonders.....

You haven't missed much Véronique. It's the outfit that runs the caff at Leclerc.

I don't know what Crescendo is.

Brian and Veronique I too cook my own food and do not buy ready meals.

Will buy scallops in the shell and clean them myself ....in preference to those

scallops which have been pasteurised.

We can chat at cooking if you like...

I hate French ice cream and almost all French cakes....

But it is clear to me that not everyone is as fussy as you and I.

Otherwise why would Crescendo be so busy.

I hate the food it is fast food without flavour.

But I have British friends who like it very much.

The point is that Jules and Lousette average who are

unable to get out to shop or cook for whatever reason.

be delighted with Cescendo style cooking.

When it comes to restaurants I am not looking for a 14 euro

menu with heaps of stuff and wine.....I am happy to pay

much more for small portions of exceptional

cooking.

Sadly exceptional cooking is doing a disappearing act in my

region.

Hear hear. The idea of eating something made by Leclerc & delivered to me for re-heating makes my stomach curl. I don't buy things like quiches etc I make them from scratch, packet pastry, packet anything... UGH. I've only ever had hospital food the 2 times I was in a maternity unit in Gb and it was unspeakable filth. I couldn't eat it & had to rely on Chinese take-aways from round the corner. I suspect the food is ONE of the reasons I had my 3 subsequent children at home.

Oh yesss! The apology for an Indian restaurant there at present needs a good competitor or replacement, then we would join you on the three visits :-D

As for pre-prepared food, no way. Disgusts me. My hospital stays saw me pouring off weight since I all but went on hunger strike, well just could not eat the slops on offer actually. Food out of a packet does not interest me on bit. I enjoy cooking perhaps more than eating and when the time comes I am obliged to only take pre-prepared slops I think I shall turn up my toes.

I don't buy frozen stuff although I think it might be easier in some ways since both Thiriet and Picard deliver - but I don't happen to like frozen food. I don't like that sort of 'caterer's food'. I eat in the school canteen (for social rather than gastronomic reasons) practically every day in term time as it is so that's more than enough mass-catering for me, thank you ;-)

Nothing in Libourne, bar the station at a pinch, would have me doing a 40-minute drive to get to it - a good Indian restaurant in Bergerac might well get my custom but probably only about 3 times a year...

I see in my commune that there are two, Intermarché, and Place du Marché (never heard of them, but hey, never looked before either)

So, looks like it is pretty much already up and running.

Well you did say you had no idea as to the purpose of "Drive" Barbara.

many of the older/disabled people in our village who cant get to the supermarket on their own are either taken by other people in the village once a week or have an aide a domicile who goes shopping with them or on their behalf.

Our epicerie used to offer a home delivery service for some of these clients but since the next village had a supermarket open the epicerie is struggling and has had to cut back such services...

YES I KNOW that.

You may think that I am thick....but I am not.

My whole point is about DELIVERY

For those who can not carry, lift, drive....

Not the same as a taxi service either....

Leclerc Drive and SuperU drive is quite simple Barbara. You order on-line and then call to collect it at a time to suit you.

ah really.....no deliveries of goodies here.

I have always been impressed by what is available here delivered.

An epicerie van comes round once a week.

The baker delivers daily

A fish van comes round once a week

The butcher delivers once a week (more if requested)

There is a van of frozen food that comes round weekly as well

A local retired farmer has "meals on wheels" every day as well.

We do not use them all but they are there!

Well we are all different.....so different.

I enjoy my little treat of bubbly mineral water and I do not use

frozen meals......maybe one day I will change my mind or circumstances will

change it for me.

But I have observed the French for many years.....my best friend in London

was French and she was very, very stubborn.....and always correct.

The French do not like Indian cuisine but most of them love it when

they try it. A GOOD indian restaurant in Libourne would survive very

nicely. I mean GOOD.
