March 3rd 2020: Change of driver’s license to French: new process

Hi Sarah. Could you tell me where you uploaded the Cerfa No: 14879.01 &14948.01 forms to? (Demand de Permis de Conduire - All your personal details)
I downloaded the forms, completed them, but couldn’t find anywhere during the licence application to upload them.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Nigel,
Sorry that I can’t help with this.
My application was online - no forms to upload - only the supporting information.

It’s all very straightforward. Worth taking a look at
https://ants.gouv.fr
as you might decide to use this process instead.

Good luck.

Hi Sarah. I think I mixed up the two processes. Lost in translation again!
Thanks

No forms to upload on the new site apart from your evidence documents, ID, domicile etc.

Unless I have misunderstood the comments above, you DO NOT need a CdS to apply for a driving licence online but it does make it easier if you have one.

And to clarify until you get to the Summary stage you are still able to modify it.

Lost licence is an exchange category and there is an option for it on the ANTS online system.

Thanks Kim.

Have you managed to apply yet?

I’m fairly sure that Kim is the person to help, a real expert.

Hi Kim, yes I managed to send off the application around mid March and received confirmation yesterday that it had been forwarded to the relevant government offices. Problem is, I made the application from Brazil (Long story) and it wasn’t unto I got to the photo part that I realised I needed a digital photo, which I could not provide. However I downloaded the Photo-signature form (FPS) and sent my photo by express mail to the address requested.
Its fingers crossed now that they receive my photo within the 15 days period or accept my excuse for the delay.

Do you know, if they don’t accept my excuse, refuse to exchange my licence and my UK licence expires before I return, would I have to take a French driving test to obtain a new licence?

Thanking you in advance for your help. Kind regards

Hi Nigel, at worst if they don’t accept your excuse they will cancel your application and you will have to start again. No you won’t have to take the two part test to obtain your French licence but you would need to get onto it as soon as you returned. I take it you are stuck where you are due to the virus.

At some point after they receive your photo you will get acknowledgement of this and then you will receive an email which will contain a link to your attestation and the letter to return your licence with. Just bare in mind if you are still away that the attestation is only legal to drive with in France. You will probably be able to post your original licence back but some one will need to be at your home address to accept your new driving licence, but you can sort that one once you get to the stage of sending your licence back.

One other question did you upload a letter renouncing your C/D categories if you have them or did you supply a medical, if no to either you will be asked to do this.

Still no progress with my licence I’m afraid. I made contact with ANTS but they have written back to me as if I am registered with them (which I’m not). Also tried FB but no reply. I said quite clearly that I had sent a postal application in January this year to Nantes but they have replied as if I did it online. They also indicated that if it was done online it would take about 3 weeks.

If I register with Ants surely they are going to treat this as a ‘new’ application & I will have to start again & how am I going to get my photos re-done when nearest photo booth is a good 30 mins away & probably is not a ‘priority’ to go out??

Any more ideas please?
Beth

Well I got a letter from Nantes last week, which is 18 months since I sent them the papers. For a licence exchange admittedly, not lost license, but they are not quick to respond.

Photos can usually be done digitally now - use your smart phone or iPad and follow instructions - can take a few goes to get right but not that complicated…

As you have lost your licence it would be much quicker to forget the postal application and apply online as suggested by ANTS.

Do you still have at least one photo a this is all you need to be able to post the photo section. You will print out an attestation at the end attach one photo and post.

If you wish to contact CERT with regard to your original application they prefer you to use the demarche-simplifees contact form.

If you require step by step guidance I have written instructions but you will need to join my Facebook group Applying for a French Driving Licence to be able to access this information.

Hi Kim. Thanks for the additional info. I missed the bit about uploading a letter renouncing my C/D categories, however as I do not have any C or D categories I guess I’m okay???
Thanks again👍

Thanks Kim, I’ll have go online & see if I can make any progress.
regards
Beth

If you have useful info/guidance, can you please just post it here?

Thanks!

Kim’s FB page has been running since the driving licence exchanges became an issue. It contains far too much information to reproduce easily on another site. It has been the go-to place for driving licence questions and answers for a considerable time.

That’s not what @james asked.

Now I finally have my laptop I thought I would apply to change my UK DL.
I don’t want to get this wrong, setting up the account with ANTS, I cannot relate to any of the options for my particular status only expert, something I certainly am not.
Any help please?
