Oh, lucky you! Still nothing here. Some years they stick closer to the coast and we miss them.
Yes, we saw them as well wave after wave of them, and very noisy. At one point there must have been more than a thôusand circling right above our house.
We had a glorious wave of Grues barking and flying overhead… this afternoon… in deepest 24
Nature is marvellous !!!
I’ve literally only seen 2 or 3 small flocks thus year. Are they confused by the heat or just flown a different path?
We have only seen a handful as well. They do choose different routes - wind directions probably. And some years we see loads. Hopefully we’ll be on their route when they are heading north again next spring.
Never ever seen any ![]()
Thursday or Friday, we had just a small contingent.
about 50 grues flying overhead. A noisy, very slim v-shape heading South.
Haven’t seen or heard as many as usual this year in my neck of the woods? All migrating bird species seem to be in decline here. Over last two weeks in the garden we have an influx of blue and grey tits so I’m keeping the feeders full, sadly no sign of any long tailed tits.
First sighting, a moment ago

Cranes have been flying over for a good while now, but nothing like 5 yrs ago, still no small tailed tits & for the first time no green finches, have seen more gold finches this year.
So they went to you!
10 years ago we had goldfinches all the time, but then they gradually started drifting away and it must be a couple of years now since we saw one last. OTOH we have a lot of great and blue tits plus LTTs in abundance. I also don’t recall hearing woodpeckers for the first time this summer, but there were still cuckoos around.
Plenty of cockoos this year, they look to be stable same as green and greater spotted woodpeckers. Squirrels seem to be in decline here haven’t seen one in the garden for a couple of years, only the occasional one on the outskirts of the village. It’s been years since I’ve seen a song thursh here in France or when back in the UK.
Saw small wave of grey cranes flying from the North-East a few days ago.
Yesterday, had a second sighting… 2 great waves from the North as the sun was setting.
all heading South of course, to warmer climes.
Not yet seen the usual hordes from the East. Hoping I haven’t missed ‘em as they are usually a magnificent sight. ![]()
I heard, then saw, the first on Sunday afternoon, flying quite high. The hens and I speculated where they might be spending the night.
I don’t know if geese are interesting enough for this thread. A couple of skeins flew overhead today heading south down the coast towards Spain.
Everything is of interest ![]()
Thank you.
I’ll look forward to reporting on swallows and swifts in the spring.
Heard the Grue today, late afternoon. Couldn’t see anything as I’m bed bound, but they were definitely flying over the house this time.. hurrah.![]()
Love the way Nature continues on-track, regardless of us fools down below ![]()
Speak for yourself. ![]()
Some of us are pillocks.
Why? Are you OK?
