We have no greenfinches at all these days. At the moment we have lots of chaffinches, bluetots, great tits, a few sparrows, one robin and lots of collared doves. A few goldfinches in summer. And one visiting jay, very handsome. When we moved here, over 20 years ago, we used to hear and see stone curlews in the fields, but they are no longer around.
This is just about birds rather than migrating ones, has anyone seen the Maîtres des Airs spectacle at Beauval zoo? It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen, with a finale of about 300 assorted birds all flying free at the same time, even macaws and parakeets. This video shows about 1/3 of the show.
Puy du Fou, in the Vendee, have the most amazing aerial bird display I’ve ever seen. I never took anyone there, that didn’t rave about the whole place, the best ‘themed’ park I’ve ever been to.
I’m not sure if this is the right thread but it’s the nearest I could find.
I just looked out of our first floor window and there’s a swallow on the telephone wire. It looks a bit cold, poor thing. I tried to take a photo through the glass but it flew a bit further away and sat on the wire there. Welcome to the south, little friend, sorry about the weather.
