It seems a small number of them have relatives in Stuttgart.

When I lived on the Fylde coast, one of my greatest joys was to hear (and then see) geese migrating.

Avoiding the UK, sensible birds

Are they the very noisy ones that fly in a gaggle, not a V?

I don’t think so

The grues fly over us and I love them. They fly in Vs and individual birds call as they fly - often very high up so you can hear them but not necessarily see them. They come over us about 4-5pm and during peak season the sky can be filled with Vs coming through every few minutes. At absolutely peak time we hear them flying all night.

When we go back to the UK that will be be one of the things I will miss the most about living in France.

I just hopped on SFN because I was outside just now and heard the first Grues of the season (for me). This means they’re already flying over Limoges area…. It seemed a bit early?

They seem to be moving around within France according to this.

They never come anywhere near us :frowning:

We are not on the grues’ route, here in Eure-et-Loir, but we always get the lapwings - early January this year, hundreds of them descending on the fields for a couple of weeks, and then gone.

I’ve not seen any yet, but with the recent rain, the grues might be walking.

And wearing wellies !

Just got back from a stroll down the valley with my pal from the Mairie.
Seems she and the Maire heard and saw a huge flock of grues passing overhead, flying way up high., only the other day.

I’m jealous () as OH and I haven’t seen or heard any yet. Mind you that mob will be heading way up North. The ones which stay with us for the summer, they won’t be here for a while yet…

OH did think he was hearing the grues, but the noise was actually coming from the grid over a watercourse. The sound of the flood did make a strange noise, not unlike the grue

We saw masses of them in fields when we went to St Lary Soulan (Pyrenees) in January

Wlthe earliest ee’ve seen them was on 1st Feb a few years ago.

I heard them yesterday, 7th February, a day later than last year, and the same as 2019.

This is in 24600

As at 8th February… you can see how they have moved up through France
