Our car is in for service at the local Renault garage. We have to return the courtesy car and give them the receipt for the petrol used when we return it. We have only gone from the garage to home and will do the same journey back again - about 30kms.
We need to fill the car up and give the garage the receipt but I don’t know if there’s going to be any more than 4 litres to buy.
Is there a minimum amount of petrol you can purchase at a pump, please.
In the UK the minimum sale is 2 litres, with a required accuracy of ±0.5%.
In France the minmum purchase displayed is often 5 litres but 2 litres is possible technically but anything less cannot be guaranteed accurate in volume…
Remember that method of payment may have a bearing on minimum purchase.
Thank you all for your contribution to this posting.
Stuart made an extra trip to the lake before we returned the car to the Renault garage adding a further 20kms to the odometer.
When we got to the petrol station, we just managed to get 5 litres in the courtesy car and noticed that there is a sign on the pump that the minimum is 5L.
So all was well in the end and our car has been serviced and there are no more warning signs when we turn on the ignition
We used to have a Yamaha Passola moped which had a fuel tank of about 2 litres max and no reserve. I don’t think it even had a fuel light that came on when it was approaching empty. It was often filled up with less than a litre at a pump that said minimum delivery 2 litres and nobody ever said a thing.
I think it’s more about accuracy of delivery than anything else - the pump mechanism doesn’t give an accurate reading of the amount dispensed with smaller volumes.
They’re just covering themselves in case anyone was to say “hey, I didn’t get the 1.5 litres I paid for!”
