More humiliation for Starmer

Unfortunately I fear F sorry RN will win, locally and nationally. I was questioned why I was not on ‘the list’ but being from a 3rd nation….

Locally I believe we will be RN and also nationally.

We have to accept the consequences of brexit and the move to the right.

What we do next is something we have to decide.

I wish us luck.

We have been collateral damage before because of brexit, something many of were disallowed to vote for against.

They don’ have an overall majority and I think they would be blocked in the second round of voting, particularly if someone as inexperienced as Bardella was their candidate (and of course by then he might also be under investigation).

I hope so, but even though Bardella is inexperienced he is way more intelligent than Le Pen and has the charisma to win.

A friend who has always been a PS supporter said she would vote for Bardella and certainly not for Le Pen. The telling comment was ‘who is there to stop him’?

I beg to differ, that’s just misogyny. She has a law degree and was an avocate, he is a drop-out (and a sock-puppet) and (to my no doubt jaundiced eye) a smarmy charisma bypass.

I certainly won’t be voting for either of them.

Ha ha, the country’s housing situation is already reeling under massive France immigration, as well as the perennial UK presence. Another 160? K UK from France would probably break the country.

Maybe get in ‘early’?

(I’m sure I read a Grauniad article about the problem recently, can’t find it, here’s a placeholder)

I have a doctorate but it does not mean I am more intelligent than anyone else. The only infractions I have are 2 speeding fines in Germany, Marine Le Pen?

I am no supporter of FN and I have no vote, so in the big scheme of it my opinion does not count.

Than anyone else ? Don’t be so open-minded that your brain falls out.

Given that LePen has moved the party from a fairly niche extremist party to one that has a reasonable shot at power, I wouldn’t underestimate her.

Your link’s ten year’s old and for the Algarve, which is already suffering from global warming, and may be becoming a tad too warm for many Brits.

Of course this is all hypothetical, but I think Brits in France generally prefer old rural properties and presumably the same would apply if relocating to Portugal. Whereas French tastes are generally very different.

Nor would I but will she be able to run?

I am all for constructive discussion.

Anyway I await to see the outcome of local elections and the 2027 presidential election and what it means for us who have British passports residing legally in France.

Alas I think the RN will do horribly well, due to xenophobia and other unattractive traits possessed by an awful lot of people. Lots of people don’t admit to intending to vote for them and plenty are very upfront about it, so it’s not surprising really they are so successful, much as I loathe them. I fear that you as 3rd country nationals may end up as bycatch or collateral damage. You know how it is when making an omelette.

I apologise to @Roger_Lapin for contributing to the thread drift, completely and totally from the 4th post -

  • Palestinians being bombed and killed in their thousands, and the UK courts rejection of government attempts to silence dissent for the protests about that, also, with what looks like gaslighting from an official religious body (?) to -

  • what might happen if the right wing got in in France, and to where might people decamp.

There are good issues raised nevertheless, I particularly like Vero’s, we are so open minded our brains are falling out, Lol. Brilliant!

This is John’s thread, and it is about a very important UK constitutional issue, and about an international war which has killed going on to some 100,000 people, so we owe it to those killed to at least express some opinion on that, maybe, at least as part of

?

Given his girlfriend is French, first wife Irish and second wife German, he may not. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas, oh………unless they are really stupid!! So yep, can’t rule it out.

Isn’t this what people thought in the last elections? RN had champagne on ice for the victory and then lost.

He may well have even more influence next year if he becomes President

Locally you probably are already the RN has the most deputies in Bourgogne

Yes I think so too. France has been going down the RW populist route for a while, now it’s accelerating. As for Brits & others I can’t see there’s going to be much of a problem if they are self sufficient financially, those on benefits could be seen as a drain on France, as with those getting energy cheques & other government financed help. It wouldn’t surprise me if in the future France, raises the amount of income required to live here as the Spanish & I think the Greeks have done. Fairly easy if you spin it a bit & whip up public opinion. There are more sob stories of Brits in the press now. If the RN ou Retailleau do get into power, watch this space…
