We were going to take the motorhome so that we could bring stuff down to leave, but at a cost of >E2.20/litre for diesel, and add in the Class 2 tolls and increased crossing costs for an 8m long motorhome, the costs are getting a little silly.
We will bring our Audi Q5 instead - a PHEV……….which I have yet to hook up to a charger in the 6 months that I have owned it!!!
Am only 20mins from the border to go and get cheaper fuel but so far we have resisted because it won’t be just petrol from La Jonquera but lots of other shopping too so won’t really be saving anything spending even more.
Does that apply in France, Corona? When I had a non plug-in hybrid, at least on motorways I didn’t think different rules applied for special lanes for EVs.
I agree with that. Why lug around a spare engine and tank full of petrol just in case the battery goes flat. Surely it makes sense to get an EV with a bigger battery.
Am I understanding correctly that there are special lanes for EVs on some motorways?
I am not aware that they have any special treatment per se.
Sadly, I had no choice but to have this lump of uselessness. I was very content with driving around in my Saab 9-3 Convertible but the ‘powers that be’ at work deemed that my seniority demanded something more ‘executive’ so this was foisted upon me.
I haven’t looked recently but I think that there are still French government incentives to buy hybrids, although not as good as the grants towards proper full EVs.
Not sure these figures are correct.
The new rate for cars under 40k when new from 1st April is £200.
More if your car was over 40k when new.
Even EVs dont get any discount after 1 year old.
Having owned fancy motors in the past I have no yearning for one now so will stick with my 9k Berlingo.
Have not seen any notices about filling jerricans or heard about them being banned for the present anywhere. Many service stations now are automatically 24/7 so no attendant in a kiosk taking the money on exit.
