Motorbike Insurance

Good morning.
Having sold our motorbikes two years ago in the UK as part of our Big Move it is now time to buy shiny new French ones. We’re looking at you, Triumph 400.
I have heard that motorbike insurance is expensive in France - is it? Anyone got examples? I’m guessing we no longer have no claims bonus as we haven’t had bike insurance for two years.
Also, in UK there are specialist insurers, such as Carole Nash and Bennetts…is there a similar thing in France?
Do you guys go fully comprehensive on motor insurance?
TIA

I insured my S1000XR for under £200 in the UK and it’s well over €700 in France.

If you have UK licences then you’ll find it difficult to get insurance through the online brokers and comparison sites as they’re just but set up for it. You’ll probably have better results talking to local agents for the likes of Axa, Generali, Allianz etc. As for the no claims, you might as well ask. Mine was recognised but I didn’t have a gap.

Shop around as prices vary. There are specialists like Mutuelle de Motards but I’ve never used them. I have both my bikes insured fully comprehensive with Axa. It will be worth asking if they will accept a two year lapsed no claims bonus. When I insured my second motorcycle they used the same no claims that I was already using for my other policy. I have never found the prices excessive as I moved from Germany and bikes were more expensive to insure there. From what I’ve read U.K. insurance has shot up recently.

Thanks. We have French permis de conduire.

I went for a Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. New about 7€K OTR. Fully comp they wanted about 700€, I opted for Third Party for about 280€.

Insurance is affordable, you just need to decide how affordable you want to make it!

I’m on the Cher/Allier/Nièvre borders, but the Creuse always gives me a ‘biker’s grin’ dead flies an’all.

Thanks Rob, that’s really useful. We are really looking forward to getting our knees back in the breeze, leaving behind my 1998 CBR 600 that I’d had for more than 20 years nearly broke my heart.

Ditto, I had a Beemer 1150RT, I was a Gruppenführer for BMW, taking groups on bike tours around Europe, for 3 ‘seasons’. Then the bike sat in the garage for 8 years.

I’m back trundling at my own pace!!

Perhaps not the most tactful job title, however correct it may be as a literal translation of “Group Leader”…

Group guide is the better translation.

Group leader is correct!
