Moving from UK to France and inventory of personal belongings

Hi

My wife and I are moving to Nice, France from the UK and I understand I need to complete a transfer of residence declaration (basically an inventory of my personal belongings called a ‘Cerfa 10070’) - to French Customs so they can issue me a Form 846A.

I will present the Cerda 10070 at the French Border Control before boarding the LeShuttle at Folkestone.

My question is: for a private individual on the LeShuttle passenger service, will the French customs post at Folkestone accept a transfer-of-residence declaration and issue the 846A before boarding, or must that be done at an interior bureau de douane such as Nice?

I have tried calling French Customs a few times and they don’t pick up!

Any guidance will be gratefully received, thanks.

Don’t forget to include your car on the list if you’re bringing one. Must be at least 6months old istr.. Apparently people forget, and the CERFA list is a one-time dutyfree opportunity.

I resemble that remark, as the old joke goes.

The people who “arranged” our move forgot to tell us.

We ended up visiting a very nice douanier in Niort, who sorted things out for us several months later.

Thanks for the replies and tips folks. It sounds like the French border customs at Folkestone won’t issue an 846A stamp and I’ll need to do it ‘in country’. I’ll make sure my car is listed on the Cerfa / personal belongings form.

I don’t think there is French customs at Folkestone, I think it’s only PAF for immigration control.

When we moved to France carrying plants in our car that had their own passports (!) just after Brexit,.we were told by UK plant health people (who issued the passports) that we needed to alert the French PAF at the Shuttle.

In theory they would direct us to a French Customs inspection post/parking bay by a building just off to the left hand side of the passport booths, where they would review the paperwork and look at the plants. Needless to say the PAF showed no interest in directing us anywhere, being too busy chatting amongst themselves and simply waved us through. The Plant health people also said that in the event of anything more technical arising you then get passed to Customs in Calais on arrival. It would be interesting if anyone has had any dealings with French customs at Folkestone (do they still exist?!).
