Yes Dawn the bottled Snowballs weren’t up to much imo but I used to love he advocaat mixed with lemonade with the obligatory cherries in attendance.

One of my dad’s best mates (they were in a prisoner of war camp together) happened to be a director of Showerings, the company in Somerset which made Babycham. Every Xmas we would receive a crate of Babycham as a Xmas prezzie, they didn’t last long !!:+1::champagne:

There was just something about the shape of a Mateus bottle that lent itself as the perfect candle holder…immersed in memories…:grinning:

My father preferred to mix his own recipe of snowball.
Found this tucked away,.no idea how old it is?

Fantastic Peter, they wouldn’t have lasted long here either! I have (somewhere…) the little plastic Babycham deer that would sit on the bar and also some Cherry B glasses. My Mother had one of the original Britvic pineapple ice buckets!!!

Cherry B was a lethal drink!

We put Eierlikör (Advocaat) on ice- cream, or instead of custard on anything with which you might have custard.

OMG…britvik…!’d forgotten them too…my first proper date with a chap I actually bought my first house with was at a local working man’s club…it was a northern soul/Motown night…I was drinking cherry b and babycham…

It wasn’t to be though…I switched northern soul and Motown for The Stranglers and The Sex Pistols and somehow ended up with hippy tendencies and the father of my children who although we split many moons ago I will always love because if I had never met him then I wouldn’t have had my precious 3 kids and 5 grandkids.,x

Made me smile…Yes I had all of those things :joy:
Not just the Esso tiger’s tail, but also the Esso man key ring. Total stick on “bullet holes” on the rear side window also. (and yes an 8 track!)

Now of course the “nodding dogs” run our Parliament
“Back in” Britain will be something Brexit will force on 1000’s of ex-pats if the government stop S1 support

…and here’s my first “car”

A friend drove a Bond 3 wheeler, not the orange Bond Bug (what a looker that was) but the standard model. I recall that the Hillman Imp engine that powered it and sat at the back of the car was so heavy that he often demonstrated to us how easy it was to lift the front end up into the air.it must have been dangerous driving into a headwind.

Would not have been a Bond (at least no UK type). These were all powered by small motorcycle type engine at the front.

I was introduced to fiberglass three wheelers and indeed fiberglass four wheeled cars by my wife’s father who was an ‘enthusiast’. The pre Bug Bond three wheelers all used Villiers engines with a maximum capacity of 250cc. The Bond Bug was powered by an all aluminium four cylinder engine that came from a Reliant but had its roots in an Austin, not the bigger Hillman Imp engine that had its roots as a Coventry Climax fire pump. Several late ‘60s, early 70s four wheeled sports cars including the Ginetta, Davrian and Clan used the Imp engines and transaxles and subframes. The engine is still found in some racing sidecar outfits.

Barley wine anyone? I don’t know whether it involved barley or wine but my mother’s drinking career began in earnest with the bottled stuff…I think it might have been quite strong.

Fascinating stuff Dan.

A workmate at the time had an Isetta bubble car which he managed to overturn in a back alley ! I see the asking price for renovated models are from £15 - £25 K !!

Remember that Chris.

I had a saturday/holiday job working on the Corona/Hunts wagons late 60s - early 70s and Corona actually did a Dandelion and Burdock drink. We didn’t sell many !

The Corona slogan at the time was “Every bubble has passed it’s Fizzical”.
