Ironically, it’s directly opposite Gibraltar. They are the two historical Pillars of Hercules (allegedly).

By God, I visited it a couple of years ago and despite staying a good hotel a pal of mine owns it’s ghastly.
My pal bought this run down hotel decades ago, he owns a several hotels in Dublin. A self made man. The Gibraltar adventure was looking a bit silly until a UK nuclear submarine broke down in Gib just after he bought the place. The Royal Navy block booked it for two years for crew and technicians that would fix the sub. Happy days.
Well yes, exactly. I too have been to Gibraltar, just once. With Spain so close, I quickly crossed the border.

I think they are both (and Melilla) are anachronisms, They need to be given back.
And the Falklands of course. I do recall there were serious talks about handing them back in the 70’s. Thatchers government wanted to reduce spending on defence for them which was why the Argentinian Junta suspecting a lack of interest in the Falklands by the UK invaded.
I’ve been to the Falklands, fortunately just for a very short time. Unfortunately, unlike Gibraltar you can’t just cross a border to somewhere else!!
Looking at the pictures in the press, these “invaders” in Cueta look like locals to me, certainly not your usual Africans. These all look Moroccan or Algerian in features and stature; Its been suggested that it is orchestrated to gain the land back to Morocco
I think one or two here are forgetting the principle of self-determination. The populations of both Gibraltar and the Falklands have voted in massive numbers (99%?) to remain British.
