New EU Motorbike laws

Somebody on my American drivers’ forum has complained that the EU is about to ban motorbikes over 15 years old.

I don’t believe it but said I would ask around. So is it true?

Did they provide any evidence?

Not only bikes, but possibly cars as well…

It is all very vague and not sure if there is any substance to it, other than it being bandied around by the wrong people. In essence, it is rumoured that the EU will/might discuss the scrapping of older vehicles if they ‘break down’.

Here is a video of a Norton rider explaining it in more detail

I certainly will be pretty peed off if there is any truth in it, as I am half way through re-creating/building a Lotus Twin Cam engine using all new parts to go into an Elan or Europa…

Thanks, I’ve passed it on, with a link.

Some discussion (and a link to the draft legislation)

there’s a lot of discussion and a lot of ideas floating around…

Sounds like a scare story - a lot of EU “proposed laws” that the press shout about never see the light of day, or get majorly watered down - but if they try that one I shall be evicting the moths from my gilet jaune.

Indeed. Very ‘bendy bananna’.

Not so scary but as it is only a proposal it will take (from my experience) around 3 - 5 years to come into to force.
