Newfound book company!

I’m quite excited! I really miss The Book Depository where I used to order a lot of things and delivery was free to France! I’ve been hunting for another flower book and found it on this site

This got me excited as it said free delivery to France and when I looked it seems it is the case for all thier books! Very pleased and I thought I’d share as I know there are others that miss Book Depository.

Good to see Blackwell’s are remaining competitive.

I used to buy from the Book Depository, but have also bought a lot of s/h hardback books online at abebooks, particularly US books, because their production values are much higher. Many of these are former library books that weren’t sufficiently popular, so were rarely read and are in superb condition. Sometimes the cost is just one cent plus postage.

There’s also a French branch though I only bought a couple from them - a history of the French Riviera and a fine, slip-cased Folio Society English edition of Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes which cost €1!

If you’re ever in Oxford, come and visit the Blackwells bookshops especially the Norrington room.

My dear old dad, rest his soul, did a funny little travel documentary, with I think channel 4 based on visiting things in the book! It was over 20 years ago, probably 25 and our first house was just starting to be renovated and I was briefly in it!

So cool and we are not far from Pont de Montvert (relatively speaking) and often see folk together with donkeys doing the trail…my wife did a big section last year from Bleymard and it looked amazing!

Stevenson’s journey seemed to get worse and worse.

Over the years Ive seen a few pèlerins with and without donkeys pass by our house (which usually means they’ve chosen the wrong route) the Lot veloroute along the south bank of the Lot is much more tranquil and safer than the D840 road.

I think the French have done well to promote the RLS trail and personally, really enjoyed reading the book.

I also know that the rom-com film ‘Antoinette dans les Cévennes’ is a massive hit in het Nederlands and so, I reckon there’s a whole lot of bi-lingual Nederlands/français donkeys out there now.

(I love the film by the way and great for learning French)

There’s an interesting Cevennes’ clothing company called Maison Tuffery, who use traditional, locally traditional materials. Not cheap, but good to know that they exist.

Yup in Florac and well worth a trip to get some bespoke denims!
