Be careful! There is no public transport at all today in the Bayonne/Biarritz/Hendaye area. Perhaps where you are too?
It’s 1 mai, fête de la travail so no-one can work apart from a few bakers and florists. Plus minimal essential public services, like pharmacie de gard.
Every day’s a no public transport day out here in the sticks. ![]()
Decazeville market was much more crowded than usual (and it’s always busy) whereas the Intermarché car park was empty, so I’m hoping the market might make a few converts.
Albi - Rodez line working yesterday with a reduced service plus more commerces open this year than last. Apparently the employment rules will change for next years May 1st. That should stir things up a tad with the Unions !
A bit late now, but is the ban on Sunday mowing extended to bank holidays in France?
After a repair to my Husqvana I avoided an overdue mow on Sunday but was half way through on Friday before the thought struck me. Anyway, no complaints and no arrests.
Seeing all the family arriving to my neighbours’ on such days I can well understand if there is a ban, but I know that they congregate on the shady side of the house, the other side from noisy me.
Sundays and Bank Holidays fall under the same “noise” rules :
10am - 12 noon only “light noise” (mowing/gentle DIY)
I once apologised to a neighbour when OH was cutting the grass on a Sunday (albeit well within the time frame).
Said neighbour smiled and waved me away.
I would add that the particular Sunday was the only decent day when one could attempt to control the rampant grass.
Rain doesn’t always fall “at the right time” to fit in with Rules and our own preferences. ![]()
It happens every year Stella, this year it seems to have passed off peacefully…
Seems I was lucky to get away with it on Friday then, but, as almost everybody knows, I do have really good neighbours. ![]()
So do we… and it makes life so much more pleasant than it might be otherwise ![]()
I had to chuckle to myself when I read about “them” planning protests" (albeit peaceful) on the one day of the year when most people can enjoy a day off… ( for now)
I’m wondering… perhaps “they” don’t really want a “day off” just a day available to protest at whatever is flavour of the moment… ![]()

it’s OK folks, I am saying this with tongue in cheek
