In other news the Pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.
“Reacting to our investigation, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, said: “Illegal working and linked organised criminality creates an incentive for people to come here illegally. We will not stand for it.””
Oh no, we’re going to sit down and do SFA about it instead. Meanwhile, where’s that octogenarian “terrorist” with the cardboard sign I want to bash.
Why is it th BBC uncovering this and not the police?
I expect this trick will soon be used for marketing by migrant traffickers.
Reports like this just lead right back to the question “how do you stop people arriving on boats” and to me the answer is “you can’t completely”. Having an asylum processing centre in France would reduce the number attempting to cross but those who fail with their claim would likely still try and get across.
I would say things were made worse with small boats on the Channel when the Tories closed down most of the legal routes for people to apply for asylum or a visa. Labour don’t seem to have changed that.
That and not being able to send them back per the Dublin regulations
No, but if the fact that we can no longer send them back into the EU is a significant factor in increasing numbers arriving by small boat then there isn’t all that much Labour *can* do quickly to get the numbers down.
To take the heat off the Trump “modified” speech debacle maybe?
They could make it easier for people to apply from abroad though. And maybe start talking more about the effects of not having the Dublin agreement.
FTFY
First you create a crisis, then you come up with a cure (digital id) neither of course will work. Stop shipping the small boats back to France could be one idea.
Do you mean start?
No I mean once the small boats arrive in UK, many are put on lorries and shipped straight back on the ferry to France. Whilst I like a re use policy that’s not going to help. Trace the manufacturer and fine them. It’s becoming an industry
I assumed they were destroyed.
I also suspect that their manufacture is by the smuggling gangs themselves - they appear to be of strictly “single use” quality.
Maybe the outboards are of standard manufacture and worth something?
Besides to whom would they be sent.
In fairness, the police may very well be. If they were, they wouldn’t broadcast it.
Originally many were simply stored in a shed at Manston airport. However some locals have filmed the boats being loaded onto lorries and straight back to the ferry at Dover. They are not Sevylor toys, they seem to be proper hypalon inflatables. You would think that the services would track the boats
Have a coach/coaches ready at where the boat people are brought ashore by the authorities and take them straight to a ferry terminal, no passport or paper checks and onto a ferry returning to France, kept on the coach with guards and then where they are met by the authorities and taken out of the port and let loose.
What do you do about genuine asylum seekers though?
That’s very true, but in reality very few were actually sent back. It was the regulation itself and the fact that people could be sent back that stopped people attempting the crossing. Before 2020, crossings were in the low hundreds per year, a fact that many people seem to forget. I’ve heard people say that small boat crossings have been very high since the previous labour government when it was the last governments handling of Brexit that caused the issue.
Presumably France has no say in that? Sovereign nation and all that.
Well obviously they would have to agree first. Until the UK is recognised as not being the land of milk and honey and free housing etc, they won’t stop coming. I think people are going to start protesting more and more especially with all these rapes and murders committed by non-legals stops. If Farage gets into No10, all hell will break loose.
