No sign of carte grise - travelling to UK

There’s even a Lidl very close by too

Unfortunate. If affairs are carried out by email it is mandatory to keep up your end of it, otherwise this sort of difficulty is bound to arise. If it was by snail-mail, you wouldn’t let it fester in a corner or put the phone down on a phone call …

Ah but … matric for my van, imported from UK, needed a C.T. first off. It failed the first test but passed all but the emissions on the Contre Visite.

Mark Rimmer, the maestro of this issue, suggested a brilliant wheeze. He submitted the application for a C.G. one evening, after biz hours. This included the FAILED C.T.

By mid-morning the following day he reported to me that he had received the C.G.! As he said “Miracles can happen!”

In contrast, after receiving the acknowledgement of application for my car, in 2001, it took +/- 6 months for the C.G. to arr.

Meanwhile I used the acknowledgement for travel to UK and ES. Never needed it.

Unfortunately depends what state your mental health is.

You’re just rubbing it in, Mark

Joy of joys, carte grise arrived yesterday.

We went into France Services some weeks back and the lovely woman did it all for us - reapplied, no problems, no queries, all went through smoothly. And it was done for free.

Glad you got it sorted Sue. If I have a carte grise problem now, I go straight to a local professional agent. They are not expensive, know their stuff, and relieve you of all that stress and hassle. You can find the nearest one with this official link.

Roughly how expensive is “not expensive” ?

Well it depends on what you want done. When I transferred a car to another driver I spent days trying to get a code I needed. The local carte grise expert quickly sorted it out for 15 euros.

When I went to pick up my new car the sale was held up because my licence had expired invalidating my insurance. The whole mess was rapidly sorted out for less than 50 euros.

It is money well spent to avoid the agro of doing it yourself.

When might one begin to suspect a problem? I’ve had an application in for (only) a week and it’s been on the same status of “being processed “ since 29/6. The seller of the vehicle didn’t provide a code so that’s undoubtedly slowed things down. I’ve received 2 emails, both witihin hours of application; one acknowledging receipt, a second indicating change of status. Nothing since.

Can France Service see more about the process than I can? Is there any value in going to talk to them? I know a week is not a long time, and there are horrendous problems with the ANTS system, but I’m beginning to wonder if there is a problem.

Update: 1 day later: no message from ANTS but when I checked just now, it was all ready and waiting for payment. They’ve had servers down for maintenance, and a problem with the production of the carte gris, but all seems resolved now. I’ve printed off the certificat provisoire so now just wait for the real thing.
