Arrived home to find a speeding ticket in the post 
I wouldn’t mind but it’s a stretch of road I generally try to keep within the limit on, and had noted I was a bit above, corrected my speed, and then clocked the hi-vis.
Total distance of which my speed was out of order - perhaps 300 yds max, probably not even that.
But there was a bloody copper there on Monday (first time that I have ever seen them there as well).

I bought a Tomtom sub for radar locations, though I’m not optimistic.
I empathise / sympathise.
I know I ought not but I treat speeding tickets (not that I get many, maybe 1 every couple of years) as consumables. A simple cost of motoring like petrol, oil and tyres etc. I suspect I’m not alone in that either. In a sense, one could say that the punishment fails in that some feel fines are considered a ‘money making exercise’. They feel a sense of injustice rather than guilt. Moot point perhaps if it stops people speeding.
Haven’t you got a fast car Billy - imagine how gutted Stuart felt when he got a speeding ticket recently whilst using the Renault Zoe courtesy car. I didn’t think electric cars went that fast 
I think the problem is as much the changes in limit in extraurban areas, which catch you out if you’re unfamiliar with the area.
I had three (maybe only two) speeders in my like in the uk. I’ve had three in France in about 18 months.
If you have a French driving licence, watch out for penalty points

Easily done, several factors - speed limits on départemental roads not consistent, also if you’re more familiar with driving in the UK at 60mph, driving at that speed in France on a D or an N route is likely to land you a ticket.
Electric cars can have a powerful acceleration that you don’t notice as engine noise doesn’t change. I don’t speed (and never had a speeding ticket) but when first got it had to be v careful as would find myself doing 110 in a 90 zone.
It’s adequate 
Mind you I am trying to buy a more adequate version (without much luck - I think the dealer is spinning me a yarn).
As my family have pointed out (a little too gleefully if you ask me) had I not been speeding I would not have got nicked.
There’s a uphill stretch, a little too much gas applied for too long easily turns 30mph into something over the limit. The annoyance is that I had realised and moved to slow down based just on monitoring my speed - only then did I see the hi-vis about 150m away so it feels unjust.
Oh well there are worse things that happen. I’d do the speed awareness course but I don’t want to waste a day of annual leave on it nor listen to some smug tw*t lecturing me.
They can quite quickly put on a burst of acceleration and almost anything on the road can exceed the limit in the right circumstances.
Surely better than 3 points and any potential hit on the insurance?
3 is usually in the noise. Maybe, just maybe, if I can find an online course and do it the next time I’m over in France it would be worth it.
I have only been booked for speeding once - on the weekend they changed the speed limit on Toulouse ring road from 110 to 90 kmph.
I stuck to the limits slowing down to 90 at the new signs then back up to 110 where it was not changed.
It turned out the 90 applied to the whole ring road but they had not got around to removing the old 110 signs.
It was easier to pay up rather than argue my case.
Nowadays I use smart cruise control which adjusts to current speed limit and no matter how close cars behind might drive, I stick to the limit.
Commiserations - I hope you can find a painless way to manage it.
I use speed control always, through 50, 70 and 80, and sometimes where it’s 90. My Tom-Tom seems to know what the speed limits are and dings me whenever I’m over the limit on those few occasions I’m not on cruise control. I have the gps on all the time because of its warnings.
It’s two days long in France, presumably deliberately excruciatingly boring and a very effective deterrent.
I think that the odd speeding ticket now and again has just become a normal part of driving these days. I use the cruise control where I can and have the sat-nav working, but it’s not perfect. Modern cars have become so much quieter, and speed limits so much lower, that just a little squirt on the gas pedal can take the speed over the top. Then there are those unmarked camera cars coming the other way that will nab you even though it’s a wide open road with little traffic.
It wouldn’t be so bad if one had been intentionally speeding, but usually it’s just a momentary lapse of attention that costs us another 45 €uro.
Unfortunately it’s just become a part of day to day life that is extra annoying when one is actually trying to be good.

There’s a stretch of road I regularly use on the way into Guildford which according to the signs is a 30mph zone. But my satnav says it’s now a 20 zone. I assume the signage is right and the satnav wrong, but given that the stretch of road a bit further along in Shalford village is now 20 (with speed bumps), who knows (although that bit has been re-signed)?
When in France I do keep a very beady eye on speed restriction signs, and use cruise control as much as possible, but as @DrMarkH mentioned D road limits are not consistent, and “UK muscle memory” can come into play.

I presume you can turn off the radar function?

And for Google maps users:
If you use Google maps to navigate, Google has advised that its camera detection feature turns off when you connect to data or WiFi in France.
I have noticed this happen myself, so Googly people are all set.
I prefer the Waze solution where you’re warned about “police” ahead, which is invariably a camera.
