@vero and @DrMarkH - at first I thought you were referring to me but I realise you meant the French guy. (Well I hope you were  )

I suppose I should have added to the posting that the reason I had the chewing gum was because I had just given up smoking (20 Marlboroughs Reds a day!) and I went cold turkey, so the only way I could get through it was to permanently have chewing gum in my mouth. By the by - within two weeks I had kicked the habit and have never had a cigarette since. :cigarette: :cigarette: :cigarette: :cigarette: :cigarette:

Did you fall in love with a cowboy, Rachel? :cowboy_hat_face:

The only cowboy I fell in love with was on the screen - as a teenager I loved Robert Mitchum - he was my idol in those days. Now my idol is my darling Stuart  . He’s not a cowboy but he can ride a horse!

Bon retour, @Corona and bon rétablissement to your wife.

So did I - though I did try nicotine patches for a while.

My advice to anyone trying to give up smoking is to find a good incentive to quit - in my case it was having healthier lungs so i didn’t use up a tank of air so fast when scuba diving,

I stopped on March 25th 1997 and am still off the weed.

Good luck for your wife’s surgery and for a full recovery @Corona

I got a job in an explosives area where, obviously, smoking was strictly banned over quite a large area. It just became too much of a faff to go out for a smoke.

One of my reasons too. It was annoying that mine would only last 25 minutes (depth dependent) when others could dive for much longer.

I remember when I told my doctor I was quitting smoking, he said that my lungs :lungs: were probably liked picked walnuts. But after not smoking for about 7 years, they could most likely recover slightly. Anyway, I couldn’t afford to smoke now. Not with the price of ciggys at around 20 euros a pack in France and almost 20 quid in the UK.

I’m pretty sure my wife stopped when the children were old enough to ask if they could smoke.

My wife used to work as a hypnotherapist. I picked up the 'phone one day when she was out.

It was a chap asking about the cost of sessions to help give up smoking. I had no idea so I asked him how much he smoked in a month and what that cost him then suggested that would be a reasonable fee.

The ‘phone went quiet for a bit while he did his sums then said “bloody hell I can’t afford that” and put the’ phone down.

15 ltr or 10ltr?

15 litre, but I did once make it last 45 mins, but it was only a max depth of 15 or so metres

Wow! A real gulper, I dived with a buddy like that, he was a big lad but he just couldn’t relax diving so like you 25mins for a 15 ltr shallow dive in Weymouth.

Yes i used to dive with my middle brother and sister-in-law who were both super-fit diving instructors at the time. Most embarrassing.

My Friend Tim, said to me on our first dive together, “ I hope you are good on air” so I chewed each breath for 30 before slowly releasing. He ended the dive at 55 mins on 0 air last 3m, me, quite a bit left and he then wanted to dive with me all the time. Sadly Tim was vaporised in the Bali bombing. :sad_but_relieved_face:

Looks like the Chopper is a goner…
