Not Surviving France

My Visa expired 30-June. I applied for a Carte de Sejour (extension of my stay in May), handled some queries and was told all was in order in early June. After not receiving my Carte de Sejour or response to request for status for thre months, I received the registered letter. So they can kick me out but it would have been nice of them to tell me when I had three months to respond, not 30-days.

Donna, this is appalling. You mention that you will be free to return after 3 months - is that permanently? I'm wondering why there's a need for you to leave at all, then to be readmitted after 3 months. It's bureaucracy gone insane and I can only imagine the emotional rollercoaster you must be on at the moment. Do you have any kind neighbours who would keep an eye on the house for the 3 months you're away? I only wish I was closer so could be of some practical help. I have everything crossed hoping that your lawyer can pull something out of the bag and stop this insanity. Valerie xx

My husband is American as well.

Hi, you have my sympathy too. Is the base issue the fact that your husband, a US citizen? Has been declined and would the approach of trying to resolve that be a way out of your citation? If that happened could you work remotely ie from France on a UK contract? All I can say is all the best

The dog needs to be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies AFTER microchipping, then to wait 21 days before travel into UK. Here is a link to DEFRA website.

It does sound like this is the least of the worries you have, but it may be worth getting this set up ASAP then you can just up and go if you need too, with just a worm treatment the day before from the vet.One less thing to worry about.

Donna, try emailing contact@avocat-immigration.com for these lawyers. I am informed they are pretty fast but not cheap. The woman I asked is Burundian and got her immigration sorted by these people. I guess anything is worth a try.

Alt + 4 Sheila told me and I will be forever grateful.

Fair point. It does take a few weeks for the test results to come back from the laborotory in Paris.

Perhaps a little too late in this case - and a good 80 euros lighter on the pocket... (plus vet fee for doing it)

BTW: I'm on a PC. Does anyone know a shortcut key to make the euro sign appear? Thank yOU!

I am shocked, thoroughly shocked. I have an acquaintance who used to be well known, indeed to large sectors of the public with interests in her work. She was an academic, came invited, stayed nearly 20 years and talked often about the well known people in the arts and pre-EU days from Europe as well who chose France and how easy it was to live here. That was, admittedly, the 1990s. I cannot believe things have changed that much.

That somebody who owns property, thus pays taxes on that as the least part of the total bill, and then more does not have greater protection from the French legal system and something smells of functionary with megalomanic tendencies. It absolutely requires a court, plus all of the slow and tedious instances of appeal perhaps. It may well put a lot of life on hold, but you will be here with a chance of getting this sorted out.

Hi

No the blood test is not required any more, but my vet actually recommended it, just in case...; as an extra proof of health in case I ran into a person who was.... not so nice:) Not everyone is up to date all the time.

Wherever you go in Europe with your pet you do actually need a piece of paper from your vet stating that the dog/cat is healthy and fit for travel; I travel frequently with my dog through Europe, and you will need this document, at least when you travel in northern Europe. I always get it, even though I have only once been asked to show it.

Great resources. My French is rubbish but thank goodness for translators!

Hello Donna: This is a sorry state of affairs. What nationality is your husband, by the way? It is a trans-atlantic problem affecting people on both sides. I have EU friends who have lived in America for 13 years, their children were all born there, and have their own homes and financially successful businesses. Now they too are being told to go, and leave their homes, businesses, friends, animals etc. for the simple reason that the original Visa type they were given is no longer an option. They have asked the authorities "What about our American children?" and were coldly told they could leave them behind there. And yet, people like Hamza the Hook can stay put in England, in spite of being who and what he is. A strange world ---

Hey I'd be happy to help but am confused about what happened here. I'm an American (10 year residency card on my second renewal) with French kids. I have been here since 1990 and have never heard of such a thing! Sounds to me like you need a good lawyer maybe? Please feel free to contact me at susan@masterthenewnet.com so I can maybe piece together what happened and what you can do next.

Knew that somebody here would know about the animal situation. Hope that the dogs are up-to-date with Rabies - though it sounds as though you don't expect to move to UK! Doesn't sound to me as though "keeping your head down" is a viable option! I think that would be more like "sticking your head in the sand".

Sorry that house-sitting doesn't sound like a viable option. Hope that you will get some more practical help from other SFNers who have had experience of this sort of thing!

:-)

Re your animals.

The laws about travelling with pets has been significantly relaxed (as of January 1st this year).

You DO NOT need a blood test (for your dogs :0)

All you need is a pet passport with it stamped that their rabies jab is current.

I'm really sorry and disgusted that things can happen this way, Donna. Have you been in touch with a social worker? They can be more active than lawyers...

Hello Donna

So sorry, but regarding the dogs, you should contact your vet immediately, traveling to the UK with dogs is not impossible at all, just tricky:) They know which blood tests the doggies need etc.

About the other thing: If you want to stay in France after this, you should get a lawyer, it sounds weird that they can kick you out; your Visa is still valid? If it is, it's hard to understand that you can be asked to leave.

I wouldn't trust my home and all my things to a company for three months, don't you have friends in the neighborhood that can look after your house for you, if or while you are gone?

Good luck:)

Dear Donna,

My Sincere Compassion&Empathy.

You need to talk to an immigration-lawyer here in France, the fact that you do have a home here as a resident and also a CDI-contract,and stable incomes counts.

You name is on your mail-box right, which means that you're a legal citizen too, course.

Remain Strong and Pragmatic,France is a Gorgeous country,I live here in France since 30 years, but France is also the country of paper-tiger"s,but it's nothing personal,it's all administration.

Be Strong and Keep the Faith.

Sincerely and Best Regards.

Seth/France.

Is this what your lawyer is after. If so, even if the final outcome isn't favourable, it should buy you time. Do you read/speak French? What is happening with your co-joint who was refused the visa? Does he have the right to re-apply or appeal?

More questions.... is your lawyer a specialist in immigration issues:
