Nothing in Particular

I wondered how many minutes Netanyahu would be able to stick to the new agreement and the answer was, about 5 mins. He won’t allow aid into Gaza because he claims one of the returned bodies isn’t Israeli.

I had my doubts too.

I had no doubts whatsoever, I knew the bastard would renege, he won’t allow any progress to the 2 state solution either as long as he is kept in power.

So what does anyone expect? The place has been bombed to smithereens, I am amazed that anyone thinks they can find specific bodies. It is an excuse, he has no shame, even if action was justified it is so like him to take it out on the innocent.

Agreed. Should never have made it a condition of the agreement. Finding the bodies (any bodies) could take months/years and they really need the necessary DNA inside Gaza, where they are looking, so that it is available for identification purposes BEFORE any body is returned, to avoid unnecessary distress.

The principals in this ceasefire agreement knew perfectly well that all dead hostages could not be returned. The condition was put into the agreement to console families in Israel and to effectively supply an excuse for Israel’s continued hostilities. I’m surprised Hamas agreed to it when they knew it would not be possible.

Given what has happened finding the remains of all the dead was always going to be nigh impossible. We are still retrieving human remains from Pompei, for example.

But surely Hamas too wants continued hostilities?

Probably Hamas do not want a continuation of open war against the superior force of IDF but they inevitably will return to covert attacks against Israel as long as they continue to exist.

It is very sad that maybe 20 Israeli hostage bodies may realistically never be recovered. However, neither will hundreds, if not thousands, of Palestinian dead men women and children lying amongst the ruins of Gaza.

Leaving the area as a memorial in the way that part of NY Manhatten has been, is not an option. Recovering the dead and preventing disease would be a huge professional undertaking that no one has so far offered to conduct. Hamas is asking for heavy equipment but Israel is not providing any, nor allowing others to provide.

There is currently no clear leadership of Palestinian Gaza and Hamas, after two years and despite losing leaders targeted by IDF, is not yet a spent force. The region holds too much distrust for a lasting peace.

So Israel still has control over whether bodies can be recovered because the Palestinians seem to have nothing and Israel can still cut off aid deliveries on a whim.

It is all but impossible for Israel to concede control of anything in Gaza.

Everyone is perfectly at liberty to ignore me of course but would it be possible to relocate this particular discussion to one of the several other threads where it is being explored?

I was intending to post something more akin to the thread title earlier today but it felt crass doing so in the middle of a discussion on such a very serious issue.

I take your point, and certainly don’t disagree, but OTOH if that’s not possible, perhaps tell yourself that not only can threads weave, but there can be contrasting threads within threads.

Won’t bother posting a Carole King link

I agree, Mark but won’t be posting here until the discussion moves on. You can call me a wimp if you like

Agree with Angela. There are already thriving Gaza threads elsewhere. There is no need to be incontinent (yes, that is correct usage  ) putting comments on that topic on this thread.

That’s why I posted my earlier link into an old Gaza thread.

Couldn’t find a suitable thread so put this here, though the subject is not nothing in particular!

Clever wolf, a female wolf, drags crab-trap ashore to eat the bait meant for the crabs. Wouldn’t have thought it possible but it is! More inside a wolf’s brain than thought I suspect, assuming this is self-taught. Is a domestic dog as clever? Scroll down to the video.

I can believe it as my Shiba Inu had wolf DNA in his makeup and he was very good at solving problems and using his paws to do things. His race also howled like a wolf when he wanted to make a point or contact other canines in the neighbourhood with his head held back and pointing upwards.

My old electric tooth brush stopped working so I bought SuperU’s own brand, with a 2-year guarantee, but which went dead after 2 months.

Found the email receipt on my iPad, don’t take paper receipts anymore, and asked the help desk assistant for a reimbursement.

She made a phone call and two burly men appeared, towering over me, to look at my digital receipt and the toothbrush. All was ok. The receipt reference number was noted, my debit card was reimbursed and I started shopping.

A few minutes later one of the burly men with assistant in tow found me, they’d come looking for me, to say that my receipt wasn’t showing on their computer and wanted another look at my iPad. They looked again more closely, were puzzled, apologised and went away.

I’ve got 4 years’ worth of SuperU’s digital receipts on my iPad and I didn’t feel at all guilty, but did worry for a moment that I might be called into their office. Can’t see how the matter could have been resolved if they took issue, which is why I think they left me alone. Their computer system failed in some way.

I wonder though if a more expensive purchase not showing on their computer would result in being asked into their office.

Interestingly last night we realised we haven’t had a super U digital receipts for two months. Why?
