I use DeepL but often use Chat GPT for translation if it’s not a basic word/sentence.

Reverso is another good one for technical phrases and the like.

Seems a sacrilege to post this article under this title thread but I feel so moved by the revelation of this discovery that I wanted to share

Subscription needed?

No the full story though, as in The Times.

It’s not just those of us who weren’t born in France.

Apparently 62% of French people are tearing their hair out trying to do French administration things online. A quarter of them have simply given up on something

A most heartening article here.

The conclusion of the article is :-

Les démarches administratives sont une épreuve [ / un enfer / une galère ] pour 61% des Français.

and

Près d’un quart des Français abandonne à cause de ces difficultés. [ especially those who live alone ] .

and

La plus grande difficulté rencontrée est de contacter quelqu’un [ in the article, this actually seems to mean recevoir une réponse is the difficult bit ] .

So it’s not just those who didn’t grow up here, that struggle  .

It’s my 41st wedding anniversary today, and that makes it, as I look at Fran in the wedding photo, roundabout the same distance then from when we were both born.

Yes there was a report on TF1 the other evening about how people cannot access online and especially Ameli and the CAF. They all said the same thing, the site just shuts down and for those in charge, I got the impression they did not really care at all reflecting the general malaise in society currently.

For £1 I get 6 months reading of The Times – not bad. Centre right politically apparently but that doesn’t bother me, being socially orientated and reading broadly.

The ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ article has led me into an intrigue, not just about who she was or might be, but why/how Vermeer painted her, as interpreted by art experts/historians etc. as in this short video.

If I were to be a painter in another life I think I’d like to paint in the realist style of Vermeer, with that touch of intrigue!

I’d say a lot of the Times readership is moving further right nowadays. Some of the below-the-line discussions on immigrants are very intolerant and some of the readers seem quite keen on Farage.

Yes, but my £1.00 subscription is small, and as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t support any hard right political aspects of The Times. There are other things to read about there. I’m intolerant of Trump in the extreme and avoid reading anything about him. It depresses me at how much coverage all media are giving him, as if he’s the great saviour now.

Sadly or otherwise he actually is to a lot of Palestinians and Jews. What use were the other leaders? Of course how long it lasts is a different matter as we have seen before the two just seem to like knocking 7 bells out of each other. Nice to see T B’liar wasn’t wanted to interfere in Gaza.

Which Trump, family and henchmen/women will laudit to the max to gain more money, as much as they can get, before their days come to an end politically.

Absolutely, they don’t have a word for philanthropy only profit

Re the Post Office scandal in the UK, just for today £1.99 on Kindle the book ”Why are you here, Mrs Hamilton” by Jo Hamilton. She was one of the sub-postmasters incorrectly prosecuted.
