Poor child.
The family come across as very entitled, poor child indeed. How do they expect one person to be an expert at all the learning stages from age 1 to age 13 or so, to get the child into a top school?
The family in this article may well be Chinese. The concept of having a ‘governess’ for children included amongst staff by the newly mega rich from other cultures is by no means new. A quick search online will pull up ads. Better qualifications required than the ‘ettiquette trainers’ that are also available.
Honestly, I see this as excellent employment creation in a sadly underpaid profession, so good luck for Britain’s teachers! At least if the job is based in London or at least UK, it is preferable.
Human nature being what it is, I think it quite likely that the identity of the child will become known at some point, eg from his friends, their parents, neighbours, other staff etc. I worry about the pressure then being placed on the child. “Oh, so you’re the one that your parents spent £2.1m to get into Eton and [you didn’t get in][you only got in because your parents basically ‘bought’ your Common Entrance results]. It’s apparently hard enough now to get into these top ‘public’ schools (at least academically) without unnecessary additional pressures.
I agree. I would put good money on them being either Chinese or East Asian (Korean?)
Interestingly, for those with funds, and I know more than one family who used this route, there are ‘facilitators’ who for a fat fee and inside connections, help steer an applicant towards a successful entry.
It is the same in UK now as in US. Indeed, UK used to be noblesse oblige. But really, these things are never a completely open field.
Is this back to Mandelson/Ferguson? ![]()
