Non, but you guessed that But on the plus side a FSD plus tow bar plus RHD a rare car .
Update CMS International law firm would disagree with my earlier post, yes FSD is allowed but only for testing purposes and requires a certificate from the road operators where testing is to take place.
There is a lot to read should you wish to log on their site ⦠so the upshot is no you cannot drive using FSD .
Perhaps Iām missing something, but 21k for a 5.5yr old car doesnāt exactly seem cheap to me. Also, how come the tow hitch is so expensive ? I mean you can usually get one supplied and fitted from Feu Vert or AutoDoc for around 400 to 500 ā¬.
From brief research it seems that the battery will be out of warranty in 30months time, and will then cost around $13,000 to replace at todayās price. So surely one can hardly claim that it will be cheap to run for the next owner.
I know that itās supposedly eco friendly, but itās one hell of a price to pay for a RHD car that makes overtaking a real challenge unless one happens to be on a dual carriageway or motorway.
I think youāll have more luck selling it back in the UK.
It wont need replacing until it ultimately fails at which point the battery could be sold for use as home storage etc. My car is out of warranty. And I have only replaced the 12v battery so far.
The battery is not an issue. A guarantee has nothing to do with how long something will last and Tesla batteries are proven to be long lasting. The price is relative, it was not a cheap car new.
For my part perhaps am missing something and didnāt really understand the way Survive France works. I was under the impression I was simply posting a For Sale notice in a site in which a RHD car might have a chance of actually being appealing.
Instead I realise all I have done is launch a discussion topic like any other in which the object is just to generate debate, fair or otherwise on a contentious subject.
Iām tempted to ask how I can even take down my ad?
Leave the ad it might get you a result. There are a lot of people who prefer RHD cars and anybody interested in buying something like a Tesla will probably be up to speed with the pros and cons of doing so. If you want to see how a harmless discussion can grow out of control search for the CritAir stickers on U.K. reg cars posts. Itās simply the nature of the beast.
Thatās not entirely true in my opinion. I posted about the way French insurance companies value RHD cars because I believe thatās something that might come as a surprise. In this case I have no idea how much a similar LHD Tesla would cost and this one might well be much less which would make the insurance situation irrelevant.
Years ago we bought a UK reg HiLuxe pickup to France and knew we could not sell it here so it went back, was parked up at my sisterās house and was put in Auto Trader magazine where it sold within a couple of weeks and for a reasonable price too. Might be the way to go as RH not much good here.
Given that RHD cars have a much lower resale value in France - which Iām sure you already knew - have you considered/costed returning it to the UK and putting it back on its original UK plate. I did this about twenty years ago from S Africa, and was pleasantly surprised by how simple and inexpensive it was (Ā£25 at the time).
I havenāt looked at the costs in detail but I have the impression it might not be worth it, if not for the expense but for the disruption and the fact that it is still our daily driver. Also I am no longer a UK resident.
Itās not so much the cost as the faff factor as you need to import the car, insure it on the VIN (which only a limited number if insurers will do), get it through an MOT and so on.
It takes a few weeks if messing around and for me, even with family help, two visits to the UK.
Would @cogarch also need to pay duty and/or VAT if he were to send it back to Blighty?
Hereās another thought (sorry, cog! But at least your thread isnāt lost at the bottom) - would it be worth investigating those companies which sell French-registered cars in the UK?
No we did not bother as OH had a Renault on order and was taking the Toyota back anyway but it sold so quickly on Autotrader as they were very very popular and like henās teeth to buy second hand. Also he had many problems pulling out at junctions in it here so decided it was too dangerous and too bothersome to re-register and we are talking back in 1994.
