Numberplates I Have Known

A social experiment to see how random a conversation about a controversial car for sale can become.

21k? For a rhd swastikar - I hope it stays fine for you.

Seems reasonable - the owner gives me 21k€ and I take it off their hands

If you’re not interested, please just pass by and avoid cheap taunts.

I hold no brief for Musk, who was a Democrat and LGBT supporter when I bought the car.

OK, that’s fair enough - apologies. I hope you find a buyer.

He’s never ever been an LGBTQ supporter, and scratch the surface and it’s debatable whether he was ever a democrat, he wasn’t in 2019.

I was confused by the extras. Is Full Self Driving now legal in Europe? If so I’m totally out of touch. The tow bar is closer to home. I will be picking up my ‘new’ car next week and one of the reasons for the delay is because it is having a tow-bar fitted. I was under the impression that that thousand euro extra might be a positive when it comes to selling the car but I didn’t expect it to add anything to the value.

To be pedantic, I don’t see where he’s claimed that it has added value, he’s just pointed out what it cost him to add it.

But that was what I found odd.
I am sure that there will be people interested in a car like that at that price but I would like to offer one bit of advice. When buying any reasonably expensive RHD car in France check with your insurance company to see how they value it. When my RHD car was hit by a tractor that I had pulled to the side of the road to allow it to pass, it was written off by the insurance company. The tractor driver was deemed to be 100% to blame for the accident and my car was insured for all risks. They justified it by saying that as it was RHD they valued it at 50% of the value of a similar LHD model. That had never been mentioned before.

@David_M_Matthews , full self driving yes…ish there are rules ! this is France. In theory the driver is not responsible in the event of a accident ,the manufacture is, so good luck with that as Tesla in the USA consider the driver should take over if there is a problem.
I would also take issue with the "extra`s, there are many …many cars that increase in cost by 30 to 50% if you raid the extra goodies shop , so what ,not quite but almost irrelevant when selling , as you have pointed out it may make the vehicle easy to sell but not everybody wishes a tow bar and many do not wish a self driving extra which no doubt has regular needs for software updates …at a price. I am aware of four ex pats in my area that had the same experience as you and received a much reduced value for written off vehicles. (not their fault ).

There is a tweet recently going the rounds from around 2017 when he was boasting of the number of LBGT+ people working for Tesla. Of course with Musk things are never that simple and he has always been a narcissist.

Full Self Driving as such is still not available in Europe, but the car has entitlement to it when it does and Musk has stated that all cars with “Hardware 3” that was present in cars in 2029 will be upgraded to be able to run FSD when/if it arrives.

I appreciate your comments on the extras David: as this like the towbar is a benefit that is not present on most European Teslas I thought it appropriate to highlight it as there are of course a lot of such Teslas on the market at the moment, as well as the value you’re getting for the price. All software updates on Teslas are fee.

Ironically if you leave aside the political dimension (as if) it makes a perfect UK expat’s car for those who want a RHD cruiser that is cheap to buy, cheap to run and exquisite to drive on long journeys back to Blighty, with its CEO less likely to be quite such an issue in rural France…

I searched the internet and it seemed to me that apart from a few test cases there is no way full autonomous driving will be legal before 2026 at the earliest. As a motorcyclist that worries me.

Yes you are right , it is has apparently? stage 3 clearance which means it can be hands free in slow moving traffic , the very …very expensive Mercedes is again apparently? allowed hands free on roads that have a central barrier? there are 1, 238 tesla model 3 available on 1 site in France from 17500 upwards , none has Full self driving all the majority from dealers with a guarantee, so 21000 with the tow bar and the FSD is not unreasonable, although I would point out most have lower mileage.

And how many are RHD? That makes a huge difference.

Indeed — a rare specimen and also a heroic assistant in our making it into France just before the end of the Withdrawal Period and cruising western France to find a place to live…
