My husband and I are planning to move to France and want to run a gite business but we will prob need a fall back. I am currently a qualified Nursery manager. Can anyone advise me what work is out there for an English speaking Nursery Manager/Nurse please?? Thanks Carole xx
I should think that as there's an element of law involved rather than just how to look after small children you would have to retrain and qualify in order to get a job - there are enough people wanting this type of job around for there to be a fair degree of rigour when it comes to qualifications. Generally speaking if you want a French job you need French qualifications, once you have those your qualifications from elsewhere are taken into account. If qualifications to be an assistante maternelle were exactly equivalent you might not need to redo them but I bet they aren't. Ratios depend on whether you are in Crèche or Ecole Maternelle (where you are assisting a teacher who is a civil servant and has a completely different status).
It is the same as for your husband, if you want to work as a nursery person you need to have French qualifications and speak French. Speaking English may well be seen as a bonus by parents who want their children exposed to English from an early age but they will want to communicate with you properly about their children so that means your French needs to be up to scratch.
