Oak Parquet Floor Installation

Recommendations please! I need approx 20 square meters of oak parquet flooring installed (glued) in a herringbone pattern. I’ll be supplying the wood. Based in 16270 Roumazierers-Loubert. The existing tiled floor will need to be removed and skirting boards taken off and re-fitted as well.

Take up the floor tiles and skirting, apply one or two coats of self leveling screed. Find the center of the room and place first bit of wood flooring, work your way out, refit skirting. You’ll need to add ± 5% for the cuts. If I was you I’d draw a scaled plan of the floor beforehand especially if not square, you can then adjust.

Using a sander abrasive 100 sand paper then varnish with a U4-P4 or U3-P3 type varnish, when dry, by hand use an abrasive wet & dry 120, then vacuum , use a sponge & chamoix with a bucket of water to pick up the rest of the dust and re varnish, if still a bit rough 200 abrasive paper, vacuum, sponge chamois & re-varnish.

That kind of made me feel they are looking for recommendations for a contractor in their area

I agree with @Wozza .

Does the new floor need to be at the same height as the old floor?

If so, you will need to be careful with the quantity of screed you use and the thickness of the parquet; allow a few mm for the glue, see makers recommendation.

Ensure you leave a gap between the parquet and the walls to allow for expansion; also acclimatise the wood to the humidity of the room in which you are laying the floor.

Thanks for the advice, but I’m looking for a professional to install the new floor.

I’m usually willing and able to do most diy jobs, but I’m not prepared to risk bodging it myself as the new floor is for our entrance hall.

BTW I plan to buy the new flooring at least a month before installation, so that the wood can acclimatise.

Ask when you’re buying if they can recommend any fitters they usually can.
