Obtaining a carte de grise for car over 30 years old

I am thinking of buying an old merc that hasn’t got a carte de grise. Is it possible to obtain a new one? It has plates on it.

I believe it is Nye on impossible. But if the car falls into the Voiture de collection category it may be possible. Others may know more. Out of interest go to a car spares site like Oscaro and see if it recognises the registration.

Just researched this. Comment faire une demande de carte grise sans l’ancienne carte grise ?

Is the person selling the car the actual owner of the vehicle (who has simply lost/mislaid the CGrise)???

That’s what I read but there isn’t any description of what happens next.

It has been off the road for a long time and the seller isn’t the last registered owner as far as I’m aware

I tried the reg number but it doesn’t come up. It’s the old xxxx-##-## format and the website asks for the modern format if that makes a difference

Hmm… I have to ask the question…
Is there any proof that the Seller has the right to actually Sell this car???

In a similar situation many, many years ago, it was eventually deemed best that the Seller actually did “whatever necessary” to obtain the missing CG.

Thus any Purchaser simply had to do the standard CGrise “transfer of ownership”… as per the norm…

Edit: Finding the last registered Owner… or Heirs if the Owner is dead… can be worthwhile… and certainly a good start. The Seller should have such information.

No not really. He has the key and will give a receipt.

I think it has to have a CT before it can be registered?? And this is too much work for the current owner.

I know it could be dodgy, but there’s always the chance that it’s not. Just wondering if it is possible to get a carte de grise for it or it might be easier to register it in the UK instead…

This site tells you the procedure to get a Carte Grise. Tout savoir sur la carte grise pour un véhicule de collection. I am ever the optimist and would love to see another iconic car back on the road. Only you can decide if it is worth it Remember there are never problems just challenges.

Sounds like you want to gamble on this vehicle, so I’ll let you get on with it.
