Amusing interview of Count Binface by Andrew Marr.
I knew Uxbridge well, back in the day, and often wonder which pub Binface meant.
It’s the Crown and Treaty in Oxford Road, I believe. I used to go to Uxbridge fairly often but I don’t remember the pub.
Well, he wants the navy to do it. He seems to have forgotten that pre Brexit we had the Dublin agreement whereby we could just send boat people straight back from whence they came. It rarely happened, but that option no longer exists.
I think the media have stopped interviewing him because he doesn’t answer any questions. If he gets a question he doesn’t like he says, ’ blah, blah, blah, typical journalists’, so why bother.
I think the navy may have more to occupy them than people in small boats…
In his mind no doubt the navy would simply strafe the boats with .50 cal and leave it at that.
Odious creep.
Hardly. He’d be hanging over the side being seasick.
He seems to have handily forgotten that France has sovereignty and that military vessels can’t just enter French waters without the agreement of France, never mind drop people off in French ports.
Ah yes, sovrintee. But only for the UK if you’re Nige. The French have already said that his plan would breach international law.
ISTR that it was news to the Brexit lot that the EU might wish to control its borders where Brits were concerned, rather than rely on the innate superiority of the British Passport as a means of circumventing immigration controls.
Or, didn’t know . He’s not bright. He probably believes he can ’ do a Trump’ and just override international law.
’ doing a Trump’ meant something very different when I was a child. It makes me titter. Very childishly.
I don’t think there’s much difference
Well, as he’s called Fartface by OH , so quite fitting.
I know this is quite silly of me, but he looks like he would have halitosis. I am never going to get close enough to find out of course.
I know it but rarely went, preferring the Swan & Bottle on the other side of the canal/bridge. For some weird and wonderful reason, I figured he meant The Three Tuns. Now that was your classic dodgy boozer, and my fave tbh - more my level.
Is the Swan and Bottle next to the canal? If so, I went there a few times - nice venue.
Yes, that’s it. It is nice, I agree. Good location, views of the canal and boats etc. Bit posh for me though tbh, I never quite felt at home there.
Maybe it’s posh now, I’m talking about quite a long time ago. The outside area with tables near the canal was really nice.
So am I! The 80s, maybe early 90s. It might well be even posher now, I don’t know. Wouldn’t surprise me at all with how pubs have had to change to stay in business over the years. I had a preference for pubs where you kinda came out reeking of smoke, even if you didn’t smoke (which I didn’t) They’ve all but gone now I suspect.
I’m reminded of an incident I witnessed in a pub Harefield way (I knew someone who worked in the hospital there) The Old Orchard google maps tells me. A well spoken gent is at the bar having ordered two large glasses of rioja. The barmen serves him and tells him the price… “f*ck me” he responds “I only wanted two glasses not the f*cking vineyard”. It was the combo of accent and curse that gave me a smile, though I obviously empathised over the cost.
I think a lot. of folks will stop donating to the RNLI if they are used in this way, I certainly would
Used in what way, Shiba?
