There are 250+ crews in pre 1982 cars starting the world’s oldest rally on Wednesday (Jan 31), with start points in Glasgow, Reims, Milan and Bad Hombourg. Competitors are literally coming from all over the world for this tough FIA regularity event.
The Glasgow route takes competitors through Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire, down the M6 to Penrith, over the A66 and down the east coast to Dover and the first overnight halt in Calais.
En route there are passage controls near Dumfries; and at the Olde Bell Inn, Barnby Moor.
After the Calais overnight it is on to Reims meeting up with those who started there,
and onto Langres, then another o/night in Gap before heading to Monaco.
The real competition then starts on Feb 3 - Monaco up into the probably snow covered Alps before the rally finish back in Monaco on Feb 7.
