It’s just flu though :face_with_raised_eyebrow::confused:

Did you actually read it or just the headline?
Un vaccinanted older people. Have we ever doubted the vaccine is a life saver? Only Helen36 said we have natural immunity. At 80 ish the natural immune system is very low hence why more die.

Yes believe it or not I can read

Show off :joy:

Yup, over 80’s unvaccinated!

Still prefer not to get it tho”.

Our son living in Queenstown NZ, has just caught it, as have many he knows.

China: Businesses shut as officials widen Covid lockdowns

The points are:

  • on a global scale Covid is very much not over, whatever Mr Johnson would us in the UK to think. In the UK cases are rising though we’re back to missing many because of reduced testing, number in hospital is going up and deaths rising (albeit slowly but they will catch up, no doubt).
  • there remain a lot of unvaccinated people (especially in China but much of Asia, Latin America and Africa).
  • Omicron might be “milder” but it is not mild in the unvaccinated. It’s not always “mild” n the vaccinated come to that.
  • higher rates of infection give more chance of new variants (eg Deltacron), these might combine evasion of immunity with severe disease and high risk of death.

Oh, and, for anyone who is still confused on this point.

  • so far vaccination has been hugely successful and effective.

My pal works for a company supplying in home social care in Argyl, most have been relatively successful in staying covid free surprisingly so considering their job, in the last two weeks of the 21of them (the most they have off before is 2), 12 are now off work with covid, with 3 in hospital, one of them in intensive care and all are fully vaccinated, it has exploded in the area and Scotland as a whole.
She tested positive yesterday.

OH and I lived in Hong Kong for nearly 30 years and hold it in our hearts.

True, the uptake of Covid vaccine has not been good amongst HK elderly but what they were offered on the health system is Sinovac & co, and recent developments mean they view these with suspicion.

It probably also does not help that the Beijing ordered system was to hospitalise everyone testing positive, no matter how minor their symptoms. Omicron is much more virulent, hence the current stats. :mask:
