Are you sure the emails are being deleted and he’s not just configured the webmail to only show unread emails? Do you see the deleted emails in the rubbish bin after he’s read them?
They are not there. Been through all his various folders (spam/ etc) I’ve been talking to ChatGPT. Basically it looks like Orange Abuse have not properly restored his account after it was blocked.
This is where we are:
I would report it as a mailbox corruption/indexing issue, not as a Thunderbird issue. Explain exactly what you’ve tested:
The account was previously blocked by the Abuse Team.
Since then, Thunderbird cannot access the mailbox.
In Orange Webmail, any unread email disappears immediately after it is opened.
It is not in Trash, Spam, Archive, or any other folder.
Searching for the message returns nothing.
The unread/total message count does not decrease when the message disappears.
The same behaviour occurs in multiple browsers, an Incognito window, and on an iPad.
Please check the mailbox on the server and rebuild/repair the mailbox index or restore the mailbox if it has become corrupted.
There’s an option under généralités to define whether deleted emails are immediately deleted or put in the rubbish bin for 7 days before being deleted. I know this doesn’t answer what or who is deleting them, but how is yours configured?
How does that manifest itself? i.e. what kind of error message(s) is he getting?
If he’s changed a password he might need to alter it for all the servers - IMAP (incoming mail) , SMTP (outgoing mail), or POP (also incoming mail but not recommended these days as it can cause issues with access via multiple devices).
@Gareth@Badger Thanks for your replies. I’ll check what you are suggesting after supper.
I am pretty certain after the tests I’ve done on the advice of Chatgpt that this is an Orange problem stemming from the fact that they blocked OH’s email and the unblocking has not been done properly. All of this stuff stems from their initial and subsequent actions and nothing on our part.
