My grandson is encouraged to visit here from UK from time to time to help with improving his French at school.

We were fishing one day and he caught a fish. “Une belle carpe” I said.

“How do you know it is une carpe and not un carpe” he asked

“That’s easy” I said, “in France all carpe are feminine".

He thought about this for a moment then asked “Well how do they reproduce then?”

This is a true story. When we first bought over here, I came over before we moved to sort a few things out, one of which was a mobile phone. I phoned my wife (using my british work phone) to tell her, and she asked me to text her with the number. No problem I said, but keep your eng/fr dictionary to hand because it will be in French . “Oh yes,” she said," hadn’t thought of that"

With reference to the title of this thread, are you implying that your wife is a babe?

Absolutely

The same grandson, when he was much younger, was causing havoc in the garden of our first house in France with his three brothers.

Realising that the noise they had been making had stopped I went to find out why. The boys had spotted some toys in the garden of our next door neighbour and went to investigate.

They had been invited in and were returning clutching packets of sweets. Knowing that the young girl nextdoor only spoke French and the boys only spoke English, I asked if they were able to speak to the girl.

“Oh yes” the eldest boy said “she said a lot but the only problem was - she didn’t know what she was saying”.
