Parking near Bordeaux St Jean

I am looking for parking near Gare de Bordeaux St Jean for eight days.
Because of the french strikes the local trains are nearly always affected, so cannot take a chance!
Any positive suggestions, please?

Park at ButtiniĆØre and take the tram to GSJ. The underground car park at GSJ is hideously expensive (8 € for 1 hour 20 last Friday…)

Thanks Vero, two further questions, please.
Is luggage restricted on trams?
Looking at the map I would need to change trams to BSJ, a ball park figure on tram journey time? I presume that long term parking is acceptable at R&P? Just thought, will the trams be running??

Crikey! :astonished:

No restrictions on luggage but nowhere to put it either, which could be a pain. The changeover isn’t a problem, you just cross the track; they were doing works on the line but I think they have finished. Give yourself an hour, you’ll probably only need 20 minutes but it takes the stress off and you’ll have time for coffee at the Baillardran stall in front of the station.
Check on the cub transports website.

It is 12 stops from Buttiniere to the GSJ, the change at Porte de Bourgogne just means walking over the tracks to the opposite platform, but you might have a few minutes’ wait.

Thank you Vero, all travel plans in place now and plan B’s.
I will not know for sure until the evening before if the TGV will be running so it’s out of my hands now! :crossed_fingers: :train:

There’s certainly no problem with ā€œluggageā€ on the shuttle bus between Bordeaux airport and GSJ. Just after Christmas, a couple hauled a double mattress aboard and plonked it in the aisle for a few stops. The driver seemed surprised but not concerned. Everyone else had a good laugh.

Hi Lily, :wave:t3:
I had the same problem. All trains cancelled apart from one, which was early in the morning and already ā€œcompletā€ my flight was 9pm from Bordeaux 2 days later so I booked a place on Bla Bla car ( co-voiturage - car share) last seat in a car travelling from Perigueux to Bordeaux Merignac (he was picking up his daughter in law from the airport) It cost me 8.50€ from Mussidan to Bordeaux Airport and I had a lovely chat with an elderly French lady spending xmas with family in Bordeaux who did not like to drive in the city centre.
I arrived a couple of hours too early for check-in, but was simply relieved to get there and have such a lovely journey down.
After my flight back yesterday, my friend picked me up as she couldn’t find a driver going from Bordeaux airport to Mussidan but she advertised her journey and we picked up a lovely young ā€œgendarmeā€ from the Bus station in Bordeaux who has started a 2 year contract based in Mussidan. So I can highly recommend the car share.
In fact, I shall always choose where possible, car share now instead of trains and buses as you meet some great people and it’s a fraction of the price.

Hi Tracey, nice to ā€˜see’ you back
I had forgotten Blabla I will give it a try, if needed :crossed_fingers: nearer the time. At the moment I keep getting errors on the site
Hope you had a good time in the UK.

Can you expand please? Thanks! X

I seem to get people disagreeing with me - so there must be an error on the site!

(I am also wearing the crown tonight from the Galette des Rois so i cannot be challenged! - I know it is a little early but it is scrummy).

It’s a bit small - probably intended for kids!

Thanks for the welcome back Lily :hugs:
Yes, I had a long overdue trip back to the UK, it’s been over 7 years ! Had the most wonderful time. But good to be back home.

Stop prompting me Mat :grinning:

Was it the shuttle bus or the No. 1 bus? You see all sorts on both

I assumed it was the shuttle because it left from outside the arrivals area but it seemed odd that there would be half a dozen stops on the way to the station. Now you mention it, it seemed more like a normal service bus. Ah, the mysteries of travel.
