PAYG SIM for mobile router

I’m looking to use a 4G router for a few weeks and rather than bring a UK SIM with me I want to try a local (Fr) one but without a contract.
Do PAYG Data SIMs exist in France?

Would be an issue if it had the right amount of data and a few minutes bundled in? Reglo mobile from LeClerk have some and another service that someone else will mention but I have forgotten

I use the really basic reglomobile one for exactly that purpose. Of course, they want you to pay a sum monthly, but you don’t have to. I top mine up as and when. I have found the link to reglomobile but can’t find the exact tariff. When I do, I’ll post it if someone else doesn’t get there first.

So do I, I think the monthly payment is just under a fiver and the calls around 9c/min.

I used to have that one but there is another arrangement where you don’t pay monthly, you just top up your account when needed. You are charged 1euro 50 for each month that you don’t use it but if you do use it you just pay the normal rates. Obviously you need a balance of more tha 1 euro 50 in there…

I think the OP just wants it for occasional use in France so it would be cheaper than a monthly subscription :thinking:

The problem with those is that you have to know/guess how much you are going to use and they normally have an expiry of one month or thereabouts on them. It’s a feasible solution though :smiley:

well at least you have a sim card that can get you on line better than nothing

I don’t think I would buy a data SIM. Just get a regular SIM from Lebara or Lyca with a wad of data. You can just pay with a credit card and let the “line” expire when you are done.
This is kind of what we are doing with Prixtel. We can’t get fibre here yet and the previous locataires told us that their ADSL was terrible. So we use a 4G router even though we are in a city (Cholet). Problem is, my wife watches a lot of Netflix, so we burn about 300 or so GO/month, but it is fast and still not more than 35 euros/mo.

I thought that was what we had, €1.50 a month, but something happened recently to make me think otherwise, I am, not for the first time recently, confused. Will have to investigate further.
