Once in rural areas of France, not only does Apple pay not work but many unmanned automatic pumps have a €70 limit on them, presumably to stop thieves with stolen cards, who have decoded the PIN then stealing a lot of fuel. If filling up my car, which demands 98 octane fuel, €70 does not go a long way towards filling up a 90 litre tank. I see that some Autoroute toll booths are advertising contactless payment, not that I use that, as I have a Telépéage badge but maybe that will accept Apple Pay as well.
