Peage flux libre - A13/A29 Rouen+Le Havre

Ooops, you were doing alright until you mentioned the dreaded dd words, I only have 2 and they are because they insist and I don’t want to do without. Unless things have changed in France you can only stop them by appealing to the creditor, not by stopping the payment at the bank.

I suppose I could but these people are volunteers remember and accostomed to receiving bills or receipts for their accounts. Also, again, would they want to set something up just for me when it happens so rarely?

The last time I paid a peage was in November last year, for a different association, (Toulouse) and the time before that was July 2023.

I think I will just have to avoid them completely in future or if necessary go down the Presse route that you mentioned. Really, it would only cut out destination Toulouse or, alternatively, take the caravan and make 2 days of it.

It might be worth asking. There is no need to set anything up at all. f you don’t want to create an account, you can simply enter the registration number and make the payment. If the association has a payment card they might even find this a more streamlined way of doing it.

Yes it’s direct debit but you are not billed until the month after you incur the tolls.

Plenty of time to check the amounts and query anything that seems wrong, before they take the money.

One time a toll plaza identified my motorcycle as a car instead of a bike and overcharged me - I disputed it online and the mistake was swiftly corrected.

So not such a big deal.

Yes but because of my increasing short term memory loss I prefer to pay directly and immediately as soon as I receive a demand. Just a few moments ago I received a notification from EDF to say that they are stopping the TIP online method that I use and instead want me to set up a dd. No way, I’ll send a cheque rather than that.

Must admit I do quickly glance at the toll booth display to check that the bike’s been recorded as a class 5 before shooting off! However it’s always documented on our Fulli bill anyway.

I really wouldn’t go back to the old ways again as the toll badge system is so much simpler and quicker (especially if on a bike or in a RHD vehicle).

And it is great fun watching the look of annoyance on the faces of French drivers when my GB plated car merrily rolls into the 30kph booth. They fully expect mayhem to ensue and I have seen many a time when they have pulled up short to cross to a different booth thinking that I will inconvenience them! What fun

So true - it’s not unusual for following cars backing off or diverting on approach to the booth as they anticipate a delay!

I don’t know if this has been mentioned but this is a post from a friend of mine who is usually up to speed on admin.
‘ Bip and Go toll tags.

Edited: it could be only the older tags that need replacing. Ours are from 2014 and 2015.

I have been following a FB thread about toll tags this morning.

I have just spoken to a lady at Bip and Go customer services.

For the new ‘free flow’ autoroutes - like the ones in Normandy, it is necessary to change your badge(s) for a new one, free of charge.
This can be done over the phone (but it is in French) 0970808765.

Or it can be done via the Bip and Go website, or the App.

They will send you the new tags plus an envelope to send the old ones back in.

Hope this is helpful.’

Ten year old tags are going to have dead or nearly dead batteries in any case I would think.

If anyone is passing by Rouen its easy to get to Bip & Go’s office and swap them.

I only use a bit of this route when negotiating Rouen 2 or 3 times a year. I have registered a card for payment because I have no idea how to tell toll free sections from toll sections without booths. Does this mean all my journeys on Sanef routes ,including those I would normally go to the booth with my card to raise the barrier, are now logged by my registration and payment taken from my card, or is it only the peage sections without toll booths?

I believe if you have an account with SANEF (or any of the other autoroute operators) then on the Flux Libre sections the cost will be charged to your account, but where there are toll plazas you pay as normal on the spot (either with cash or card, or by using a Bippy tag).

I would imagine they plan to do away with toll plazas throughout the network eventually and make it all Flux Libre.

If you don;t have an account with SANEF etc. then you have 72 hours to pay the toll either online or at a Nirio booth.

I haven’t been along a Flux Libre section myself yet but I would assume there is signage to inform you of the fact that it’s a Flux Libre toll section.

Thanks Chris, I drove along a section of the A13 on a return visit to the dieppe over Christmas and observed that the tolls I paid for the overall journey had been less than on previous visits. It wasn’t until I read about the libre system, that I suspected I had not paid for a section without toll booths. Having registered my car and card on the Sanef website, it looks like there must have been a grace period as there were no outstanding payments logged against my registration. On that journey, I was completely unaware of the changes and consequently wasn’t noticing missing toll booths, where previously, there had been some. Motorway driving is so mind numbing, you just observe the vehicles around you, the app directions and stop periodically to collect tickets or offer up your bank card. The only thing that breaks the monotony is the road building and diversions in Rouen

Yes that’s always a joy!

Yes Chris, there are quite large signs on the approach to where the old booths used to be and in the peage areas telling you that you are entering the Flux Libre zone.

I simply turn off the N 154 at S.1 and then go due north through Pt. de L’Arche up the eastern side of the river 'till I get to the turn off to the A28.
No peages trouble me through to Dieppe or Calais. The only place, coming from the Dordogne, where I will have to change my route is to go, carefully, through Orleans.

David don’t let all the talk of bip and goes (we don’t have one,) or flux libre worry you, for regular motorways like the Orleans one nothing has changed! Pay and get your receipt as usual!!!

Me to David, the D6015 for those interested.

Why would you want to go through Rouen, honestly the new bit costs 2e and we reckon cits a good 1/2 off the trip!
