Today is the UN’s International Day of Happiness - so cheer up people!
Apparently humans are actually twice as nice as most of us think, in terms of random acts of kindness.
And despite the long dark winters, Finland is still the happiest country on earth.
Sorry France you’re at number 43, with the UK at 23 and the USA at 24 - that surprised me a bit, but then again the French do like a good moan about things.
How lovely… a special day during which we can be Happy and spread Happiness … hurrah
I hadn’t read this when I left for the Mairie this morning… but, never the less… those people who crossed my path, all went on their way with a smile on their faces…
Whether they were laughing at my jokes or at the batty English lady… is immaterial…
Perhaps it’s full of refugee Americans who have been happy to get out in one piece. Once they all get here that will push the French score up a few points.
"[The survey] measured trust in strangers by deliberately losing wallets, seeing how many were returned and comparing that with how many people thought would be handed in.
"The rate of wallets returned was almost twice as high as people predicted and the study, which gathered evidence from around the world, found belief in the kindness of others was more closely tied to happiness than previously thought.
“John F. Helliwell, an economist at the University of British Columbia and a founding editor of the report, said the wallet experiment data showed ‘people are much happier living where they think people care about each other’.”
I’m struggling to see that the survey is anything other than completely bogus. The wallet experiment will show “people are happier” where they are the most cynical.
