I think it’s all fine and dandy with French cards, and pretty much works instantaneously. Foreign cards seem to take more time to reconcile.
Foreign cards are passed back to the country of the originating bank so two sets of handling involved.
Both Mastercard and Visa have websites that explain, in detail, exactly how pre-authorisation works and why there could be a delay in refunding.
