PM candidates

Who is going to fill the seat of PM?

I like much of what I read here-

Pity about his position on Israel.

He does have Jewish ancestry so you would expect that.

I don’t think that is necessarily the case. Anyway he voted to ā€˜remain’ so along with Hunt will likely be excluded.

So did Liz Truss.

Tugendhat sounds like just another right-wing extremist to me…

  • The obligatory cap-doffing to the US (attack on Iran)
  • Linked with US right-wing extremists ( Bilderberg group)
  • Praised Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
  • Voted for brexit (in Parliament)
  • Condemned UN criticism of Israel - said the Israeli–Palestinian conflict ā€œdoesn’t matterā€!
  • Suggested expelling all Russian citizens from the UK

I quite like him too, but lack of ministerial experience may go against him. I agree on your Israel point and he’s was wrong about the murderer Mohammed bin Salman too. Though I can understand that, as anybody who knows Saudi has been hoping for a moderate breakthrough for decades. Pity bin Salman was a false dawn.

Tugendhat’s Mum has a cool name ā€œ Blandine de Loisneā€, hasn’t she? :slightly_smiling_face:

But Geof, they are all rightwing (or very, very rightwing) extremists :joy:

Rees Mogg would be good just for the entertainment value,he just needs to open his mouth and he can upset the whole country,he is so out of touch. He needs a proper title instead of the one that was invented for him-the benefits of Brexit minister or something, don,t think he found one single thing, hilarious!

it’s a dilemma, isn’t it? I want the best candidate to succeed for the Country’s sake and I want the worst to succeed to push the Tory party further over the edge.

The problem with Tom Tugendhat’s ā€˜clean start’ manifesto | The Spectator

There is such a dearth of decent politicians at the moment that whoever gets the nod will still be the wrong person for one reason or another.

I’m not sure we can rely on the Spectator. It’s another Barclay brothers rag.

James (not so) Cleverly - the new Education Secretary - disagrees with you Tim… He reckons there’s a surplus of brilliant candidates

You have to ask, when the likes of Anna Soubry, Dominic Grieve, etc, either left or were expelled from the Tory Party when Johnson took over, why all the current leadership hopefuls supported him until a week or two ago.

Only, I hope, when it actually sets out the evidence.

Slightly off topic, Durham police say there is ā€˜no case to answer’ over Beergate.

there never was…

One could always hope that Grieve et al will return. IMHO as long as the ERG and its despicable crew are around Conservative leaders are just comprimised.
