Pot au Feu

I have a lovely looking chunk of beef left over from a part of a cow we bought! It is labelled 'pot au feu' which I hate but I need to use the meat up. It is Charollais so will be lovely I am sure if I find a nice slow cook recipe to use with it.

Any suggestions please, preferably one to go in a slow cooker as we have one of those stupid cheap ovens that turn off every 2 hours and it's a gorgeous day and don't really want the oven on all day.

How about a nice tagine? It doesn’t have to be made with lamb. Some really good recipes on BBC.co.uk/food.

You can mince it if you have a machine, blitz it in a processor or just cut it into smallish cubes .

Or you could try browning it and put it in your slow cooker with the rest of the chili ingredients (diced tomatoes, chilis, spices, stock, beer, softened nions and in my case sundried tomato paste and/or cooked red peppers). I wouldn't add the kideny beans until an hour before you want to eat.

Bon App

Sounds nice Sarah, in one big lump, in slices or chunks?

Hmm, don't I need to mince it for that Steve?

Chuck it in the slow cooker with onions, carrots and most of a bottle of red wine (au choix). Or barbeque sauce, or hoisin sauce, or tomato sauce.

Make a chili con carne. Will be nice to eat in the evenings once the sun has gone down. Leftovers can be frozen.
