Private Car purchase - Cerfa 15776*02 or Cerfa 15776*01?

We are buying a second hand car privately and I’m looking at the forms on the government website. I see that I can download 2 pdf copies numbered Cerfa 15776*01 and both we and the seller can physically fill in and sign the form, in the same place at the same time.

Or one of us can go to an online version Cerfa 15776*02 and fill in the information for both of us. However, it looks to me as if that online form then has to be downloaded and printed, so that we can then sign it physically.

I’d be grateful for some help please from someone who has been through the process themselves recently. It looks straightforward, I can see no reason to involve anyone to do it for us, but I have some queries.

I can’t see any advantage in the online approach, since it looks as if we still need to print off a physical copy - is that correct?

The Pdf version offers 2 copies. Surely we need three? One for us (buyers), one for seller, one for prefecture. Is that correct?

Is the date/time of purchase when we paid the money into the seller’s account? Or when we physically pick up the car?

Grateful for answers to the above - thanks.

I tried to transfer ownership of a car to a friend. We went round and round in circles on the Ants site. In the end we used a local agent who sorted it out in no time and cost very little for the service. You may find one here car registration agents

The préfecture has nothing to do with car registration these days. 2 copies are enough, one for you and one for the seller. You just scan and upload it when you apply for the new CG ( don’t forget to get the code issued to the seller). All reasonably easy these days

Thanks Mark. I did wonder after I’d posted - I’d found an old video (obviously out of date) and they mentioned the prefecture.
