Problem with heating system

In 2023 we had a heat pump system fitted (the 1€ promo) and this has been working well since then except that …..

A couple of days ago when we expected the system to kick in because of the low temperature, it did not. On checking the programmable thermostat, it showed that the battery needed replacing. This was done and we thought all was OK. But nothing happened. Then we (Stuart) established that the pump was not working. It had jammed up. Careful use of a screwdriver managed to free the pump - the lights changed from red and amber to green amber and the circulating pump worked. So we thought the system would be up and running. All the lights that should be on are on, but for whatever reason, the system does not fire up.
Before we call in a technician, does anyone have any suggestions or points to check to find out why this system is not working.

Small print on the paperwork often says what the customer can safely do… changing the battery seems obvious, so well done for that.

If the paperwork doesn’t give any more advice, I’d call the company servicing the Guarantee as your equipment must surely/hopefully still be covered??

Calling in someone from outside might negate any guarantee, also too much fiddling by you might give ‘em a reason to “blame you”… which can be expensive.

If nothing else, calling the company might give you information on what you can safely do yourself.

Best of luck.

I know very little about heat pumps - hope to get one installed next year. Is the fan working in the outside unit? Have you tried asking Chat GPT? It’s very good for things like this. My oil boiler was shutting down after 10 secs and Chat GPT and YT vid helped me fix it - dirty optical sensor. I’m sure someone knowledgable will be along soon.

Does it have network connectivity? If so then you might be able to look for error codes.

Mine looks like this

Yes John, we do have network connectivity. We put it in test mode and it showed no errors.

It might be worth a dig into the menus to see what it’s actually doing. On mine, I can see the temperatures at different points in the system, what temp it thinks the house is at and what demands it’s seeing, e.g. demand for hot water or demand for heating. It means you can follow through the logic of what’s going on.

And just to put my geekery right out there, I have a Home Assistant page to show me the key data at any time
