Proof of no claims

Hi there,

I have a car insurance conundrum:

We are trying to insure a French registered second hand car. We have proof of no claims on our car insurance in the UK which goes up to November 2008 when we moved to Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lanka we did not have any car insurance as we didn't own a car and mainly used a driver.

Apparently, not having a car and not having driven for four years cancels around 20 previous years of no claims bonus!

We have proof of our sojourn in Sri Lanka (visas, employment contract etc) but no proof of no claims during that time as we had no insurance to not claim on!

Any ideas?

Wendy

I know what you mean. SFN is a storehouse of treasure, but sometimes it feels like buried treasure. Go to the "Main" page, click on Google search and type in "Car insurance conundrum". My discussion is the first non-sponsored entry [about 4 or 5 down]. I'm off to see my Aviva man tomorrow - hope it will finally sort it all out!

Hi Chris

I've just spent half an hour trying to find it. I really find it hard to find my way around the SFN site!

Do you have a link?

Go to anagent rather than trying to insure online [as I, foolishly, did]. You'll probably manage to get a partial "bonus", especially if you can provide evidence that you had no accidents or claims in S L.

Hi Wendy,

see my discussion "Car insurance conundrum". I had problems with no claims discount and received many useful tips from SFN members.

me too :-(

I have an horrible feeling that the price of living in Sri Lanka is going to include the loss of your NCD.
