We have permission for a carport.
It occurred to me that we could install PV panels on the roof (I imagine we’d need to reinforce it somehow).
A stroke of genius (as I’m inclined to think) or fou comme une boite de grenuoilles?

You need to get a declaration préalable for any PV over 1,8m from ground level - an easy matter.
There are PV carports on the market, which might save you some money as the panels form the roof, rather than being added on top.

Loadsa people do it apparently.
Guessing places like Leroy Merlin would even sell different specs according to whether PV panels (heavy) are going to be on them, or not
Gotta say anything I see online looking like a carport or a gazebo always looks very overpriced in France.
