Have to pop down to Perigueux on December 30 pick up my new 10-year TdS. The appointment is for 9 o’clock in the morning! I’m a night bird and don’t generally get out of bed until noon. The prospect of having to rise at 7am , have a coffee and head off in the dark to the prefecture, which is an hour’s drive away, fills me with horror. The obvious answer is to book a hotel room near the prefecture for the night before and this I’ve done. Why can’t they just put the new card in the post? Having said that, I’m looking forward to wandering around the charming streets of Perigueux before my appointment. Sympathies to anyone who has to travel farther to their prefecture.
Good luck! Enjoy PX, let me know if you want a restaurant recommendation!
@Al_Rogers I do understand having the TdS put into one’s hand rather than left to the vagaries of the post… Govt Officials are sure they are giving the card to the correct person.
However, I applaud your idea of the Hotel. We’ve done that when OH had medical stuff to commence “at the crack of dawn” … certainly relieves the stress of driving. .. and I enjoyed “being a tourist” in Perigueux. ![]()
@toryroo our favourite resto has been sold and changed completely (Clos St Front) now under new owners, but there is still a great choice.
I think that short notice between the sms and date of appointment, as well as the early hour, may be intentional on the part of the Préfécture.
It was made clear to us during our initial visit that change of time or date would not be possible. Perhaps these arrangements are to prevent non residents from obtaining what will henceforth be permanent residency?
[A bit too late. Those non-resident second home owners already scarfed their 10 year WA cards when it was easier during the lead up to January 2020. ]
I’m still trying to work out the title of this posting.
Me too. Is it about turning the palaver of having to collect your residence card into a treat by staying in a nice hotel? Putting the t into treat? Or rather the “r” into “teat”? I have no idea really.
It’s gibberish.
Gibberish indeed. Apologies. I like your suggestions. No idea what happened but the it’s now corrected.
So am I. Sorry for the butter fingers. It’s now been corrected.
Any recommendations gratefully received.
Hi…no problem Al…I was just intrigued.
A night in a hotel in Périgueux does sound like a lovely idea.
Again at Périgueux, we were given a set date and time for the application to be processed, (when we had to show relevant documentation and have our fingerprints taken), but were able to book online and choose a date time to collect the actual card, which has to be signed for.
