Registering a UK IW horse trailer in France

Hiya Everyone, 2026
I have a UK registered Ifor Williams trailer which I would like to register here in France. It was brought over pre Brexit and I have all the paperwork for it from first ownership. Thought it would be relatively straightforward - pay Ifor Williams for CoC then register via ANTS site…… unfortunately IW are saying they no longer issue Certs for trailers of this age, but they may be able to issue a ‘Barre Rouge’ whatever that it - they say it ‘may’ let me register it here……It’s now 2026 have been trying for several years to find answer. Is the UK IW doc any use? Did the local IW dealer do a Conformity Test? Are there many amendments required to pass ( additional reflectors, etc) ? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

In short, the answer is no without a complete one off test by DREAL (v expensive)

The barre rouge is in two parts - the vehicle description and the CoC. You have been offered the first part.

If IW will not issue a CoC, then it means the trailer was not made to any eu normes.

Do you have any information about the test by DREAL please?
The trailer is worth about 3,250e and I don’t know how to get rid of it…if not able to drive or sell it…

On a trailer back to the UK and sell it there.

@jaime_hepburn if you look at your other post on a different thread, you’ll see you have received an answer… that you can “go ahead” and register it here in France.

I may be thinking of the wrong person but I think @cat has some knowledge of this exact subject and could maybe offer advice!
