Hi, hoping someone can give me some good news. Mum is here from Oz and based on other conversations on here we went and picked her up a Reglo sim card to use while here, in the Uk and in Greece. From what I understand this is FINE. (I’m hoping anyway!!!). However I’ve just gone to buy extra credit in order for her to contact the tour guide in Greece (from here) and it seems that you can’t do this without having the monthly debit set up. I’m actually really cross as I went with them thinking it will all be easy.
Any thoughts about how we can get around this??? And can someone please confirm that mum can call both UK numbers while there and Greek numbers when there??? I’m hoping I haven’t got the wrong thing!
I have both French Reglo and a UK Vodafone sim cards in the same phone. Both can be used to call to/from France/UK without difficulty as long as international dailing code is used when appropriate.
Its hard to imagine why Greece would not be the same from France? But as its a french SIM then a call from Greece to UK or vice versa which (cleary) doesn’t involve france, might be expensive?
However, I do have a monthly DD for Reglo (and vodafone for that matter) set up. Its easy to do that with a french bank account.
Yes, she also has a dual sim but one is taken with her Aussie Telstra Sim so no space for a UK as well! and she isn’t there long.
no she doesn’t, and doesn’t want to have it as only needs it for such a short time, not worth setting up! Yes she has now contacted him on Whats app.
I think this is where I’m confused. FROM france she can’t call anywhere other than France (without the add on which we have now discovered she can’t buy). FROM Uk she can call France and UK but can she also call other EU countries at that point? Ditto Greece.
Oh and anyone reading this in the future, don’t believe the person at the supermarket, they tried to tell me UK wasn’t covered as they had left Europe (and this was the ‘expert’ person we’d had to come back to talk to in the Cultural bit at the big Bergerac leclerc
IIRC Brexit did spoil EU roaming, but then some of the phone companies (e.g. Lebara who I am with) had a rethink and decided it was not worth p*ssing off their customers over a relatively small cost to themselves. But roaming is no longer guaranteed as it was when the UK was an EU member, so some operators still charge some customers for it (usually those on the “Pay as you Go” plans).
I have Lebara, Smarty and 1p sims in various phones. All are 30 day rolling contracts and all have unlimited calls/texts and inclusive roaming. Data boosts are available should the basic allowance be insufficient. All can be suspended or cancelled at will.
