Releasing bank account information

Hello everybody,

I have a question. We are preparing our information for a tax accountant. I am perturbed that they are asking for our bank account numbers. The forms are asking for a lot of information. I have been living in the USA for many years. We have had the same tax preparer for years. I don’t want to sound paranoid or ignorant but is it normal to give out so much information ? I would appreciate some insight. Thank you in advance.

This seems to be a question about US

tax. Are you sure you’re posting in the best place?

Is this for a French tax return? We have had to declare all our UK and French bank accounts, with account numbers.

Looking at your posting history, it seems you lived in the US for a number of years and now live in France.

The answer is that the French tax authorities require details of all your accounts, everywhere.

And so do French tax advisors

It is the same in the US. You are required to report all your foreign bank accounts.

Thank you for your reply. It just seems weird to give out so much information. I wanted to run this by folks who have been here longer and have more experience.

Thank for your reply.

You cannot hide anything here, it all leaves a paper trail whatever you do. Just going to the doctor or dentist leaves a lot of info for the authorities to access if they wish. Your French bank account gives all your info to the fisc anyway.

Thank you for your input

As a number of political scandals have shown, you can try, but somehow it all ends up on the front page of the papers

Even the brown envelopes with wads of cash and slush funds got the better of a past president.

And that husband and wife who got caught out the other year, well a few husbands and wives over the past years actually, all in public office too!

This is off topic but your post made me think. Is there a helpful resource to understand French politics for a person who doesn’t speak much French ? I’m taking classes but it’s a slow process !

It is only your account number they want, not passwords. What is abnormal about this? Pretty well every invoice you receive might have their IBAN printed on it. No big deal.

My account number is 84864769991 with CA. You will find it nigh on impossible to extract any money from it, but if you wish to deposit any - it is dead easy, so please feel free to do so :joy:

OP is referring to requests for access from an accountant, ie passwords to thing s like one’s personal space on impôts site.

This is normal, you are expected to trust your accountant.

Thank you

When you put it like that, I agree. After living in the USA I have become more suspicious. The scamming and fraud activity is unbelievable. I have spoken to several people who have been victims. I will never be critical of them because I believe that in the wrong circumstances I could be in their shoes. That’s why I turned to this community for advice.

I might have guessed there’d be a pour les nuls book for that

Yes, there is a ´Pour les Nuls’ for almost everything.
